ImOn Communications has been the LOCAL choice for high-speed Internet, cable TV, and phone in Eastern Iowa since 2007. Since then, we have expanded our network to provide fiber Internet services to more than a dozen communities in Iowa and beyond! As we grow our network, we are looking for an Outside Plant Construction Inspector to join our team in Duluth.
The Outside Plant Construction Inspector will oversee the construction activities that take place on the worksite and will be involved in monitoring the activities of the construction contractors in the field. The Construction Inspection Technician will plan, implement and oversee construction efforts at specific work sites.
While the initial focus will be on delivering a two-year FTTH build, high-performing team members may have the opportunity to take on expanded duties, participate in future projects, or explore relocation opportunities as the company expands into additional markets.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate projects in the field to ensure they are on time and within budget.
- Field inspects contractors during build and post-build projects.
- Monitor the progress of utility locates.
- Responsible for completing weekly production reports.
- Route Inspections – drive ImOn routes to inspect pole line and buried routes.
- Ensures operational success of FTTH builds by providing strategic input for construction planning, enforcing productivity, quality, and service standards, resolving field and scheduling issues, and driving continuous improvement in construction management practices and systems.
- Ensures that all work considers the safety of the customer and general public and compliance with all OSHA guidelines.
- Uses test equipment to check for gas in manholes; may be required to empty water and other debris from manholes.
- Occasional after-hours work as well as overnight travel will be required.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in one or combination of equipment installation, cable splicing, line work, installation and repair.
- Ability to accommodate after-hours work as required
- Ability to occasionally travel overnight
- Excellent observational and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Effective communication skills
- Valid State-issued Driver License with a driving record that allows the employee to be insured by ImOn’s insurance carrier
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure
