Job Summary and Qualifications

The BMT/ Apheresis RN performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, emphasizing the nursing process and outcomes for cellular therapy and complex blood cancer patients. The RN is responsible for delivering and managing patient care, educating the patient and family, providing/coordinating psychosocial/emotional support, and coordinating all aspects of care during the transplant and cellular therapy collection process.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will apply principles of oncology nursing. Provide emotional, spiritual, religious and cultural support to patients and their significant others.
  • You will be responsible for performing comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patients. A comprehensive assessment will include a focus on cellular therapy. The RN will evaluate the side effects of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and immune effector cell therapy.
  • You will provide care to patients/donors undergoing cellular therapy collections or therapeutic apheresis procedures.
  • You will assess patients/donors before, during, and following the collection procedure.
  • You will ensure patients/donors and their caregivers are education on the procedure being performed, emphasizing reporting signs or symptoms of reactions related to the procedure.
  • You will provide care to patients treated for graft versus host disease (GVHD) utilizing photopheresis.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing is required
  • BSN is required
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date)
  • Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS Certification (American Heart Association) preferred
  • OCN Oncology Certified Nurse Certification preferred
  • 1-year of clinical Infusion BMT experience as a licensed RN required
