Organ Recovery Coordinator Lead - LifeShare Carolinas - FT Variable

Major Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of LifeShare's medical director, rotate on-call medical director extender coverage, evaluating potential donor suitability, utilize evidenced-based practice to manage LifeShare donors and optimize organ function.
  • Precepts and mentors Organ Recovery Coordinator III teammates
  • Make and execute treatment and clinical care decisions.
  • Perform diagnostics/procedures, where applicable to include mid-lines, arterial lines, bronchoscopy as necessary.
  • Work with the organ recovery coordinator (ORC) III to coordinate and provide staffing for the DCC.
  • Serve as the intraoperative care provider providing “head of the bed” management to include airway and ventilator management, lung recruitment and Valsalva maneuvers, hemodynamic monitoring and treatment, and medication administration.
  • Oversee DCC equipment management including regulatory compliance with all CLIA, CMS, UNOS, and FDA requirements, maintenance, and quality control (QC) procedures.
  • Lead and participate in policy development, quality improvement initiatives, and outcome measures.
  • Lead supply chain management functions to include medication, supplies, stocking, and BTM management.
  • Coordinate and deliver critical care donor management education to LifeShare Organ Division staff, participate in ORC new hire onboarding and annual skills fair and competency evaluations.
  • Evaluate potential DCC donors with the medical director which may include onsite, field assessments. Communicate acceptance and collaborate with all pertinent LifeShare teams including family support, ORCs and Operations teams, and MedCenter Air.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor's degree healthcare field or associate's degree in nursing

Certification / Registration / License

Registered Nurse, Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Work Experience

5 years OPO and/or critical care (ICU) nursing experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Demonstrates leadership skills and clinical expertise in working with acute and chronic illnesses commonly associated with the brain dead and neurologically injured population

Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical nursing knowledge, Communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice

Demonstrates an expert-level understanding of donor suitability, donor management, and organ recovery best practice.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Prolonged standing, walking with the ability to bend, reach, and assist in lifting and moving patients. Coverage of extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Periods of high stress caring for medically complex and fragile patient population

Work Experience

3 years of critical care nursing experience and 5 years of OPO experience
