Position Summary
We are currently hiring healthcare professionals who are passionate about customer service to join our Team as an Ophthalmic Scribe. The Ophthalmic Scribe will support a high-volume Ophthalmic practice that focuses on providing quality and compassionate care to patients in need of complete eye care services. The Ophthalmic Scribe role is more than a job, it is truly a career. In time you may become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Ophthalmic Scribe Certified (OSC) and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT). We encourage and support these certifications and provide assistance with the certification process. Additional monetary incentives are awarded upon attainment. Responsibilities
This position requires customer service skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a degree of independent decision-making.
Ophthalmic skills (upon completion of training) include but are not limited to:

- Accurately document patient history, chief complaint, and reason for visit in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Record examination findings as dictated by the ophthalmologist or optometrist
- Document diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions
- Enter orders for testing, medications, imaging, and referrals as directed by the provider
- Assist with patient flow to improve clinic efficiency
- Prepare exam rooms and ensure necessary equipment is available
- Review patient charts prior to appointments to identify missing information
- Document procedures and minor surgeries in real time
- Update patient records including medications, allergies, and medical history
- Assist provider with patient education by documenting instructions
- Coordinate with technicians, front desk staff, and providers to ensure smooth workflow
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Assist with prior authorizations and documentation as needed
- Help track diagnostic testing and ensure results are documented properly
- Perform other administrative or clinical support duties as assigned
Preferred Skills (Optional to Include) - Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology
- Experience with EMR systems
- Strong typing and listening skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
