Operator IV - Road & Bridge (Internal Applicants Only)

Reporting directly to a Foreman, responsible for performing County roadway maintenance. Level IV of IV in Operators.

  • Performs roadway and right-of-way maintenance
  • Operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment such as Operator-III level equipment, along with road recyclers, blades, rollers, and vacuum brooms.
  • Utilizes expert knowledge of the asphalt injection process for roadway stabilization
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment
  • Plans the implementation of traffic control signs and barricades in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) for work activities
  • Utilizes computer skills including, but not limited to, spreadsheets, checking email and electronic timekeeping
  • Reviews data entered into the roadway asset management system
  • Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e. flooding, ice storm, etc.)
  • Transports equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks (6 and 12-yard dump trucks)
  • Prepares and maintains reports of daily work activities
  • Assigns and schedules work, reviews work, trains staff and oversees productivity within a crew
  • Responds to citizen concerns with limited supervision
  • Complies with departmental and county safety standards
  • Communicates effectively with the public and other employees
  • Attends all meetings and trainings


ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports directly to – Foreman
  • Direct Reports – No official direct reports but may serve as team leader on a project basis and serve as foreman in the foreman’s absence


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position involves stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, climbing, driving and lifting up to 100 pounds


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

  • Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather
  • Individuals may be exposed to heat, cold, loud noise, dust and hazardous chemicals


IRREGULAR HOURS

  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
  • Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) years of related work experience
  • Successfully performs all duties of Williamson County Operator III
  • Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
  • Expert knowledge of roadway and right-of-way maintenance and crew-specific skills
  • Expert knowledge of Operator-III level equipment, along with road recyclers, blades, rollers, and vacuum brooms.
  • Expert knowledge of the TMUTCD
  • Expert knowledge of the asphalt injection process for roadway stabilization


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required within one hundred eighty (180) days of employment

  • Texas Class “A” CDL with Hazardous Materials and Tanker Endorsements
  • First Aid and CPR


REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Must furnish a working cell phone capable of receiving and sending phone calls and text messages


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in a related field
  • Ten years’ experience in crew-specific tasks and the operation of related equipment
  • Knowledge of roadway construction
  • Commercial Herbicide Applicator’s License
  • Texas Qualified Compliance Inspector of Stormwater (QCIS) certificate
