Job Description

The Operator plays a key role in a large, advanced manufacturing environment, combining hands-on production work with leadership responsibilities. This position supports day-to-day floor operations, oversees work prioritization and labor tracking, and helps maintain a safe, efficient, and well-organized workplace. Candidates with a manufacturing or trades background who are comfortable using measuring tools and working with decimals will be an excellent fit for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform all floor operations and processes in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Provide backfill support on the production floor when necessary to maintain workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, and training new team members as required.
  • Support decisions related to pay rate settings and pay increases in alignment with company guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Operations to prioritize work orders and ensure efficient production scheduling.
  • Accurately record labor hours in company software for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Review and approve time-off requests while ensuring appropriate production coverage.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and promote good housekeeping practices, including line clearance; apply 5S principles where applicable.
  • Manage and monitor the KANBAN system to ensure adherence to established procedures.
  • Use QAD or similar systems to create scrap and efficiency reports for management review.
  • Process engineering change orders (ECOs) as needed to adjust operational run times, setups, and related parameters.
  • Determine and refine work techniques to improve productivity and quality.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety guidelines and company attendance policies.
  • Lead by example in all aspects of performance, conduct, and safety.
  • Apply the disciplinary process when necessary, using objective evidence to support decisions.
  • Address and resolve conflicts in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Work overtime when business needs require it.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support production and operational goals.
  • Perform machine operation, assembly, general production, and inspection tasks as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to support machine operation and assembly work.
  • Use microscopes, hand tools, and measuring tools to perform detailed inspection and medical assembly work.
  • Support basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and maintenance activities on production equipment.
  • Work in cleanroom or medical device production environments when required, following all relevant procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing, trades, or production environment.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to work with decimals and perform precise measurements.
  • Experience with machine operation in a production setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Comfort working with general production, assembly, and inspection tasks.
  • Ability to use microscopes and hand tools for detailed work.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical concepts for basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to manage and follow KANBAN systems and production procedures.
  • Capability to use company software to record labor hours and generate reports (e.g., QAD or similar).
  • Understanding of safety guidelines in a manufacturing environment and ability to enforce them.
  • Comfort with applying a disciplinary process using objective evidence when needed.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to lead by example.
  • Willingness to work overtime based on operational needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in medical device, medical assembly, or cleanroom production environments.
  • Exposure to 5S, line clearance, and structured housekeeping programs.
  • Experience creating or interpreting scrap and efficiency reports.
  • Familiarity with processing engineering change orders (ECOs) to adjust run times and setups.
  • background in maintenance, electrical, mechanical service, or troubleshooting of machinery.
  • Experience in environments producing components for medical or aerospace applications.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering and operations teams in both prototyping and production phases.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large, clean, and temperature-controlled manufacturing facility with over 250 people on site. The environment includes extensive equipment and machinery, with many moving parts, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and organization. You will work around advanced manufacturing and processing equipment used primarily in the medical industry, including machinery for nitinol melting, fabrication, finishing, and medical device production. Some work may take place in cleanroom settings, particularly for medical assembly and medical device components. The facility supports both prototyping and production phases, with engineer-to-engineer collaboration and use of systems such as KANBAN and QAD for production control and reporting. Standard manufacturing hours apply, with the expectation of overtime when business demands increase.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethel, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.80/hr.
