JOB SUMMARY

Reports to the supervisor of Surgery Support and works under the direction of the charge nurse or supervisor of the department to which they are assigned. Provides support to the clinical team in the provision of surgical and procedural care. Assists by cleaning rooms and equipment, procuring and storing equipment, room set up and opening sterile supplies. Responsible for the transport and hand-off of specimens to lab. Performs high level disinfection of endoscopes and other equipment. Provides transportation and other assistance with patient care under the supervision of the circulator. Works as a member of the procedural team.

JOB DUTIES

2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information

3. Performs a variety of tasks such as assisting with positioning of patients for procedures, care and handling of all equipment, assists with delegated aspects of direct patient care.

4. Works in a collaborative manner in addressing patient care issues maintaining open communications with the charge nurse. Supports the charge nurse in ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, cost-effective holistic patient care.

5. Manages disinfection and proper storage of surgical equipment as well as an organized and clean storage area.

6. Shares knowledge and expertise with others. Ensures that staff members are trained and cross-trained to function independently. Assures new staff is oriented to area of specialty.

7. Performs point of use cleaning and disinfection of sterile instruments

8. Performs high-level disinfection (HLD) of endoscopes and other patient care equipment. Monitors quality and maintains records per regulatory requirements.

9. Participates in activities which promote personal/professional development

10. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed which may include:

a. Receiving, sorting and stocking procedural supplies

b. Maintaining a clean, neat and orderly work environment

c. Demonstrates competency in the use of appropriate computer functions and applications

d. Departmental stocking

11. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education: High School Diploma required. Some college preferred.

Licensure/Certification: CPR certification on hire or able to attain within 60 days

Experience: One year of hospital experience. Bedside experience and/or sterilization experience preferred.

Other Job Requirements:

Requires the ability to work in a team and employ effective communication skills. Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push/pull patients, wheelchairs, carts and equipment and perform for long periods of time in surgical PPE.

Requires flexibility in work schedule including weekends.
