Onsite DOT Delivery Driver Position Profile

The Onsite DOT Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate delivery, pickup, and relocation of customer packages and mail in compliance with customer requirements and all applicable Federal DOT regulations. This position requires strict adherence to delivery safety standards, safe driving practices, and excellent customer service while ensuring proper handling, documentation, and transport of materials.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure proper receiving, sorting, and purchase order (PO) processing of mail and packages.
  • Load and secure packages and mail safely in box vans or trucks.
  • Pick up mail and packages from designated customer locations and delivery stops.
  • Deliver mail and packages to correct delivery points according to customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks in compliance with DOT regulations (electronic or manual).
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, clean, and compliant with DOT and state laws.
  • Participate in company safety programs and initiatives.
  • Pre‑call customers when required to coordinate deliveries or pickups.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times.
  • Identify customer needs and take appropriate action, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Maintain professional appearance in accordance with site dress code.
  • Ensure all required delivery paperwork is completed, signed, and processed properly.
  • Load and unload trucks as required.
  • Follow all accident and incident reporting procedures.
  • Meet established productivity and quality standards as outlined by management.
  • Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and stair climbers, as required.
  • Lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Assist with backup and route training for new delivery drivers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Required:

  • Safe driving record with verifiable driving history.
  • Eligibility to operate a commercial vehicle in accordance with FMCSR regulations.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license per company policy.
  • Successful completion of a road test.
  • Valid and current DOT medical card.
  • Minimum age of 20 years, properly licensed in the current state of residence.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), if required by state regulations.
  • Ability to read maps and use electronic GPS systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to safely handle oversized and overweight packages.
  • Awareness of at‑risk behaviors with the ability to make quick safety corrections.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with smartphones, tablets, and handheld electronic devices.
  • Adequate reading, math, and legible writing skills.
  • Ability to become certified in warehouse equipment operation (forklift, stair climber, pallet jack), as required.
Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Demands
  • Work conditions may pose safety risks if proper lifting, handling, and driving procedures are not followed.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching required.
  • Physical effort required to lift and move mail and packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to interpret and apply detailed instructions, operational policies, and delivery requirements.
  • Work environment may include office, warehouse, and vehicle settings with varying temperature and noise levels.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned routes effectively.
