What You'll Do:

  • Performs duties in alignment with the Oncology Data Specialist competency framework and organizational Service Excellence standards. 

  • Manages Cancer Registry operations to ensure compliance with Medical Staff requirements and ACoS/CoC standards. 

  • Abstracts, codes, and analyzes oncology data per national registry standards, including timely case completion, accurate staging and treatment coding, and identification of reportable cases. 

  • Maintains confidentiality and integrity of patient health information. 

  • Conducts compliant long‑term patient follow‑up through provider and patient outreach. 

  • Supports Cancer Committee functions, cancer conferences, and multidisciplinary activities. 

  • Communicates registry guideline updates and performs quality assurance activities, including case review and re‑abstraction. 

  • Participates in special studies and quality initiatives as required. 

  • Prepares, submits, and maintains accurate oncology data reports for internal and external stakeholders, including state and national cancer databases. 

  • Provides guidance and support to entry‑level Oncology Data Specialists as assigned.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Work Schedule That Supports Work-Life Balance

Enjoy a stable, full-time schedule (72 hours biweekly) that offers a combination of on-site and remote work. 

 

What You Bring:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Associate’s degree in Cancer Registry Management from an NCRA‑accredited program, including successful completion of an NCRA‑accredited practicum

OR

  • Associate’s degree (or a minimum of 60 college‑level credits) in any field, plus completion of an NCRA‑accredited Certificate in Cancer Registry Management, including successful completion of an NCRA‑accredited practicum

OR

  • Associate’s degree (or a minimum of 60 college‑level credits), plus:
    1. Two semesters of Human Anatomy and Physiology, and
    2. 1,950 hours (equivalent to one year fulltime) of documented cancer registry work experience

 

Certification

  • Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential preferred
  • Candidates not certified at time of hire must be eligible for and obtain ODS certification within two (2) years of hire, in accordance with NCRA eligibility requirements and exam availability

 

Conditional Qualifications / Education in Progress

  • Candidates actively enrolled in an NCRA‑accredited Cancer Registry Management degree or certificate program may be considered, provided all NCRA educational and practicum requirements are completed within two (2) years of hire
