What to Expect
Deckhands are hired on an on-call basis, meaning there is no guaranteed schedule or minimum number of hours. However, depending on operational needs, there may be opportunities to work an average of 32 to 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work all shifts, including early mornings, mid-days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Additionally, deckhands must be able to report to any terminal within a 35-mile radius of their assigned homeport—defined as the terminal closest to their permanent residence.
