Department Overview

CHH2 OCU provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 14-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require surgical interventions and recovery for Red/Green/Gold/Blue Surgery, Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT), Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastics, Urology, Gynecology, ElectroPhysiology (EP)/Cardiac Catheterization (Cath)/Interventional Radiology (IR), Urogynecology, Oculoplastics, Vascular, and Ophthalmology. Department Specific Working Conditions: Exposure to chemotherapy, and isolated conditions for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk.

Function/Duties of Position

CHH2 OCU provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 14-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require surgical interventions and recovery for Red/Green/Gold/Blue Surgery, Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT), Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastics, Urology, Gynecology, ElectroPhysiology (EP)/Cardiac Catheterization (Cath)/Interventional Radiology (IR), Urogynecology, Oculoplastics, Vascular, and Ophthalmology.

  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy

OCU provides care for a variety of surgical observation patients who require monitoring after day surgery procedures for pain control, postop nausea and vomiting, surgical site monitoring or other indications.

Exposure to chemotherapy, and isolated conditions for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk.

Required Qualifications

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical experience caring for post-surgical patients as an RN, student or other capacity.
  • Certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing.
  • BSN is preferred.
  • Experience in a high-level acuity medical facility.

Additional Details

Length of Orientation – New Graduate Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.

Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
