Position Summary
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) provides rehabilitative, skilled, and medically necessary treatment interventions to patients with cognitive and/or physical functioning disorders under the supervision and direction of an Occupational Therapist. This role supports long‑term care patients through evidence‑based practice, documentation compliance, and collaborative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver treatment interventions per regulatory and clinical practice requirements under OT supervision.
- Administer procedures including ADL retraining, therapeutic activities, therapeutic exercises, modalities, and assistive device use.
- Assess patient progress and communicate with supervising OT to adjust treatment plans.
- Report treatment effectiveness and contribute to discharge summaries.
- Provide consultation to patients, families, caregivers, and service providers.
- Document all required information in the electronic system and maintain accurate patient records.
- Record treatment minutes per regulatory requirements.
- Participate in patient care conferences, utilization review, and rehabilitation meetings.
- Attend facility and company trainings, in‑services, and conferences.
- Collaborate with OT to obtain necessary DME or supplies.
- Supervise and support students under OT guidance.
- Adhere to NBCOT/AOTA standards, state practice acts, and professional ethics.
Requirements
- Active Texas COTA license (Compact accepted).
- Minimum 1 year OTA experience.
- Long Term Care or Rehab experience required.
- Compliance with NBCOT/AOTA code of conduct and state regulations.
