O.R Scheduler- Cayuga Medical Center- Full Time- Days

The O.R Scheduler position is responsible for managing and scheduling all incoming surgical procedures. This includes making sure that each order is a good, complete order, checking for Pre-Authorizations (if needed), checking for Medical Necessity and deleting orders as necessary.


Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Maintains surgical scheduling system.
  2. Schedules patients for the appropriate surgery/procedure and department efficiently and accurately.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of the functionality of the OR module and has the ability to open/close rooms and move cases as requested.
  4. Updates block schedule/assignments in EPIC as needed.
  5. Completes patient paperwork for scheduling.
  6. Schedules diagnostic appointments as appropriate.
  7. Verifies physician orders for procedures.
  8. Works with charge nurse regarding added cases and changes to schedule.
  9. Able to prioritize assignments within scope of position.
  10. Collects and inputs patient data accurately and efficiently.
  11. Identifies specific unit problems and seeks appropriate resource for resolution.
  12. Keeps environment clear and any patient information confidential.
  13. Coordinates issues with external departments as needed for resolution.

Required Skills and Experience

Candidates should possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to multitask.

  • Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Experience - Minimum of 1 year-Healthcare; Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiarity with imaging exams

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Work is typically performed in an office environment.


Location and Travel Requirements

  • Onsite: Cayuga Medical Center: 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850
  • Shift: Five 8-hour shifts per week, flexible between: 7a-3p, 8a-4p, 9a-5p
  • Travel: 0% Travel can be expected in this role

Pay Range Disclosure

  • Standard rate of $20.50 - $26.00 per hour with benefits
