The Prince George's County Department of Health is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Nutritionist Supervisor (Community Developer IV)position, grade A27, in theWICdivision.

About the Position
This is a supervisory, professional principal work whereby incumbents perform a variety of assignments in the areas of (1) community liaison/ development/advocacy, or (2) social services among client populations (e.g., youth, aged, community action, housing development, health, etc.). Incumbents may supervise but must lead subordinate positions. The complexity of major community development work assignments require the use of independent judgment, action, and initiative. Subject to extensive public contact, incumbents conduct a wide range of activities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level position. Work performance is evaluated through conferences, completed reports, and overall contribution to the assigned program. The incumbent is a responsible community health professional, with a background in nutrition, who performs a variety of social services among client populations. The incumbent supervises subordinates and works independently and in cooperation with the WIC Program Chief to fulfill the administrative and nutritional goals of the program.

The PGCHD works to protect and support the public’s health through numerous services that range from restaurant inspections and disease tracking to care coordination and health promotion. The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.
  • Supervises staff and manages daily clinic operations.
  • Assists with candidate selection for employment and personnel's annual performance evaluation.
  • Assists Program Chief to establish WIC Program policies.
  • Coordinates nutrition and breastfeeding services.
  • Performs complex principle professional community development work within a major programmatically section/division in support of higher-level officials.
  • Plans and coordinates the activities of a major and complex community development project or assignment from its initial inception to its ultimate completion in accordance with local, state and federal codes.
  • Plans and leads the work of professional and paraprofessional personnel engaged in the collection and analysis of socio economic and other pertinent information.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets for the assigned program or project.
  • Coordinates the preparation of reports requested by higher authorities in support of respective program or project.
  • Represents the department/division at meetings.
  • May be required to use automated equipment in conjunction with assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or
    position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated
    with the employee's class of work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business or public administration, social services, sociology, psychology, or other related field(s).
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional technical, analytical and developmental work experience with at least one (1) year in a lead/supervisory role.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Please note there is no equivalency for supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition.
  • An active RD/LN certification through the Maryland Board of Dietetics Practice (if applicable).
  • Bilingual
