We are seeking a passionate Instructor who will guide our students as they prepare for a career in Nursing.The Nursing Instructor is responsible for teaching courses within both the Registered Nursing (RN) and Nursing Assistant Certified (CNA) programs to beginner and advanced students. This includes delivering didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction in accordance with program and regulatory standards. The instructor will perform clinical teaching responsibilities in acute care and long-term care setting while actively participating in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation to support program outcomes and continuous improvement. This role requires collaboration with nursing faculty and staff contributing to program planning, student success initiatives, and accreditation requirements.

This is a full-time, tenure track position that is responsible for 30 hours of instruction and 10 hours of professional activity per week Monday through Friday in our Nursing program.Due to the nature of clinical instruction and scheduling variability associated with clinical rotations, weekly hours may not be evenly distributed. Faculty are expected to maintain flexibility to meet insructional needs and clinical requirements.

This position is represented by the Renton Federations of Teachers (RFT) union. The salary for this position is$118,514 - $141,543 annually.New hires are initially placed at step one ($118,514) on the salary schedule. This does not include the general wage increase effective in July.   • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for diverse student populations. Support the College’s mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens.
  • Effectively teach portions of the current curriculum for the registered nurse associate degree program and certified nursing assistant, including but not limited to, basic nursing skills, theory related to growth and development throughout the life cycle, medical surgical nursing, pharmacology, and psychology and maternal and child nursing.
  • Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs, and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  • Develop and update curriculum as required by the College to respond to industry trends and to improve equitable student outcomes.
  • Maintain office hours convenient to students.
  • Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students with varied backgrounds and career goals.
  • Assume responsibility for the teaching-learning process of students in the laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Provide clinical instruction for students by:
    • Coordinating with the clinical facility the orientation and scheduling of students.
    • Provide active, on-site clinical instruction and supervision of students, including direct teaching, coaching, and evaluation of performance. Faculty are expected to be consistently present and engaged in student learning and may not rely on staff nurses to fulfill instructional or supervisory responsibilities.
    • Preparing and presenting pre- and post-conference programs for students in the clinical facility.
  • Actively participate in, and develop and maintain, effective working relationships with the program advisory committee.
  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small groups, and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.
  • Effectively participate in staff and college committees and activities.
  • Create a professional development plan and participate in ongoing improvement activities.
  • Serve as an effective member of the nursing instructional team.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience.
  • Must have an active and current unencumbered Washington State Nursing license.
  • Documentation of current immunization (CDC recommendations) and health requirements within one month of hire date is required.
  • Must have or acquire a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of initial employment.
  • Possess knowledge of disparities in access and outcomes in health care; knowledge of research around impact of bias; to include social determinants of health.
  • Design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.
  • Work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.
  • Work with online learning management systems to further engage the student learning process.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail maintain accurate records, manage multiple tasks, while planning and organizing work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • A graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
    OR
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education, AND a graduate degree in a health- or education-related field from an accredited college or university, in accordance with WAC 246-840-526.
  • A master’s degree is preferred. Candidates with pending degrees completed prior to September 2026 will be considered.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours include instruction Monday – Friday, with evening and weekend work as required.The position is active in nature and requires standing, lecturing and demonstration of processes in a classroom environment.Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
