The Intermittent Float N/A functions as member of our nursing care team assisting licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving community living care or who are in acute, sub-acute or chronic states of illness. The NA will be under Nursing, Operations Service for unit will float within medical Surgical, CLC, Escort, MH, ED, Critical Care, Outpatient Clinics.

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional NOTE: This is a INTERMITTENT appointment. A part-time or intermittent employee may not be scheduled for employment which will exceed 1820 hours or seven-eighths of full-time employment during a service year. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT for Miami VA medical Center for Nursing Assistant - Float (Intermittent) Open Continuous Announcement position. It will remain open until 09-25-2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be on 14 days. Eligible applications received after this date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occurs as-needed basis until positions are filled. Positions to fill, 10 Nursing Assistants for the following shifts 0730 am - 4:00 pm shift; 10 for the 3:30 pm - 12:00/midnight shift; and 10 Nursing Assistants for the 11:30 pm - 08:00 am shift. Available to rotate to every other weekend. The Nursing Assistant, Float position is located at the Miami VA Medical Center main facility, located at 1201 NW 16th Street and reports to the Nursing, Operations Nurse Manager or designee. The Nursing Assistant (Float) Intermittent provides nursing care to a variety of patients/residents of ages across the adult continuum to meet personal hygiene needs such as bathing, lifting, turning and feeding; administering tube feeding via feeding pump to include changing administration sets, all the while explain procedures to patient/and or family. The NA (Float) provides nursing care, performs clinical procedures according to specialty, technical procedures and ancillary services for complex patient. The Float NA performs a variety of personal care or nursing care activities. The NA helps each patient attain optimal physical, physiological, emotional and social well-being, verbally provides patient information to the treatment team for inclusion in the veteran/residents' plan of care, participates in treatment team meetings for resident care planning. The Float Nursing Assistants recognizes and reports changes in patient condition RN, NP, and/or MD/DO. Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for BLS, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. Verbally provides patient information to the treatment team for inclusion in the veteran/residents' plan of care, participates in treatment team meetings for resident care planning. Assist in the prevention of hospital acquired complications such as pressure ulcers through the frequent repositioning; through hand hygiene, via use of aseptic techniques and teaches patient/family the same. Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures to care for the veteran for such procedures but not limited to enemas, catheterization, colostomy care, skin care simple dressing, application of braces and prosthetic devices, The Nursing Assistant (Float) Intermittent duties include but are not limited to: Utilizes glucose monitoring machine to receive glucose readings for veterans refers deviation to appropriate health care staff. Makes observations of subtle changes in resident's condition, i.e. behavior shifts, mood, skin coloring, appetite, etc. and take actions accordingly within the NA's assigned role. Documents care given, observations and responses on appropriate tools or forms. Recognizes the residents' autonomy and promotes independence by means of respect, limit setting and individualized treatment. Participates in maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient/resident. Serves as the unit safe patient handling liaison. Appropriately initiates basic life support, takes actions appropriate action. Orients members of the health care team to the units as appropriate. Administers complete tracheostomy care, including suctioning. Provides direct care for complex veterans. Enters information about the residents' condition in the chart, utilizing appropriate formats. Work Schedule: Intermittent/Per Diem; Tours, 0730 am - 4:00 pm, 3:30 pm - 12 midnight, 11:30 pm - 08:00 am. Tours-based on the needs of the service; Flexibility to work different days during the week with every other weekend rotation to ensure adequate coverage for the service.
