South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks applications for Adjunct or Part-Time Faculty to teach in the Nursing Assistant (NA) program. We seek dedicated educators who are passionate about student success and committed to inclusive, innovative teaching that prepares students for the healthcare workforce.

The Nursing Assistant Faculty member will:

  • Design and facilitate contextualized, integrated learning experiences aligned with identified college pathways and nursing career goals.
  • Develop and implement authentic assessments that measure students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in nursing and are aligned with course, program, and college-wide learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student learning in assigned instructional settings, including classroom, laboratory, and clinical environments.
  • Apply a variety of evidence-based teaching and learning strategies that support the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor (kinesthetic) domains of learning.
  • Provide academic and student support both in and out of the classroom, including referring students to appropriate campus services and resources.
  • Maintain availability to teach courses on a variety of days and times, primarily during pre-arranged schedules that meet program needs.
  • Select and prepare appropriate clinical client assignments for students prior to scheduled clinical days.
  • Communicate clearly and constructively with students regarding strengths, areas for growth, and progress toward learning outcomes.
  • Implement the curriculum as designed and approved, and provide timely feedback to program faculty on its effectiveness and implementation.
  • Proctor examinations and other assessments as outlined in the course syllabus and program requirements.
  • Uphold all professional responsibilities and ethical obligations as a Registered Nurse, with particular emphasis on client and public safety in the clinical setting.
  • Contribute to the technical and general education of students preparing for employment in healthcare and/or transfer to a university.
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence, including awareness and understanding of historically marginalized and underserved populations, and foster inclusive learning environments.
  • Support the college’s mission by promoting a work and learning environment grounded in mutual respect, fairness, creative thinking, and critical inquiry, while contributing to the appreciation of diversity and a climate of multicultural understanding.

Schedule information:
Clinical teaching assignments are scheduled on either Tuesdays and Wednesdays or Saturdays and Sundays and take place at area healthcare facilities, including Capital Medical Center, Mason General Hospital, and Providence St. Peter Hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in the subject area taught.
  • At least one (1) year within the past three (3) years of direct patient care experience with elderly individuals, chronically ill individuals of any age, or both.
  • Experience serving in a mentoring, precepting, clinical instruction, adjunct faculty, or leadership role with pre-certification nursing assistants, pre-licensure nursing students, and/or newly licensed graduate nurses.
  • Active, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Washington State, or eligibility for licensure in Washington State.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to employment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to differences in sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, socioeconomic status, physical ability, and learning styles, along with a demonstrated commitment to fostering aninclusive and equitable learning and working environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with graduate-level coursework in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience. All degrees must be from an accredited college or university.
