This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, C. M. Tucker Campus, Roddey Pavilion 2200 Harden Street Columbia, SC. 29203

As the Nurse Supervisor / Nurse Manager III / Clinical Nurse Leader, working under general supervision, you will provide nursing supervision to professional nursing personnel in the administration of nursing practices to include planning, organizing and distribution of work assignments to personnel in a designated area. Will assist with direct care on unit when needed. Cross trains and floats to other units as needed. Position requires the ability to work with all genders in our skilled nursing facility.

Responsibilities for the Nurse Supervisor:

  • Make rounds, observes, demonstrates and assess residents to ensure that nursing care is administered in accordance to residents' needs, policies and standards of nursing. Document assessments according to physicians' orders. Give and document direct resident care, medications and treatments as needed.
  • Provide input and assist in planning and implementing nursing care programs, interprets and reviews policies, procedures and guidelines with nursing staff. Participate as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Be familiar with OBRA, OSHA and DPH requirements. Evaluate and monitor environmental conditions and quality of life for residents.
  • Assist with maintaining nursing staff records. Evaluate and counsel staff under immediate supervision. Provide instructions and guidance to nursing staff.
  • Make recommendation to the Nurse Administrator I concerning educational needs, staffing patterns and environmental needs. Communicate pertinent information to other nursing staff.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
  • BSN or a three (3) year diploma in nursing or an ADN and at least two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in either psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing or medical/surgical nursing.
  • Must be licensed as an RN by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to thirty (30) pounds routinely, with the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more in an emergency.
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two or three flights of stairs.
  • Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in resident areas for long periods.
  • Must have manual dexterity and be able to work with repetitive unusual resident behaviors.
  • Position may require basic life skills including CPR, AED use and ventilations.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Post hire, employee must:

  • Be able to perform MAPS and emergency measures to victims with cardiac and/or respiratory arrest and other emergencies.
  • Have the ability to demonstrate effective and safe usage of resident care equipment.
