Medical Oncology is looking to hire a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) into the Gastroenterology Oncology Care Team.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our adult Medical Oncology outpatient practice, seeing adult patients with gastrointestinal malignancies as part of our GI care teams.
NPs and PAs see patients at initial consultation and follow established patients, guiding them through their treatment plan in close collaboration with medical oncologists. The NP or PA manages treatment-related toxicities for patients who are going through standard and research-based cancer treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies. Additionally, the NP or PA provides holistic care and support for patients during all aspects of their disease course. This includes ordering of curative intent therapy, survivorship care, management of long-term treatment-related toxicities, assessment for cancer regression/progression/recurrence, clinical trials enrollment and end-of-life care.
Due to the complexity and breadth of the patient population, the ideal NP/PA candidate requires a commitment to challenging and complex patients, excellent communication, teamwork, and assessment skills. The individual NP PA will work within the GI Oncology Tumor Group. The GI group has 6 care teams comprising of Consultants, NP PAs, RNs and other allied health. These teams are subdivided into the following subspecialty focus areas: Colorectal, Gastroesophageal, Pancreatic, Hepatobiliary and Neuroendocrine cancers with the goal of streamlining patient care and clinical trial enrollment. There is cross coverage to provide support to patients with all GI malignancies. The teams work in close collaboration with colleagues from Gastroenterology, Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, and other multidisciplinary teams. The NP PA will have a central role on the team to provide continuity for patients, serve as a provider resource for nursing and help with coordination of care across multidisciplinary teams. Our NP PA are true experts in their area of focus.
Once established clinically, the oncology team is very supportive of mentoring NP PAs in other academic and research pursuits. We take pride in working with individuals to identify their professional development interests and foster them. We strive to see our Advanced Practitioners excel in clinical practice, research, and education shields.
