Texas Health Plano is seeking to hire Junior 2 and Senior level nursing students for our 7-week Nurse Extern Program.
This is a paid, 7-week Externship that focuses on the Extern learning the role of the RN in an acute care setting. This program brings together students and preceptors in a unique, one-on-one clinical partnership where mentor relationships strengthen the students’ awareness of nursing scope of practice and critical thinking skills. Students in this program receive a mix of on-unit and off-unit learning to develop their communication and interpersonal skills and assist with procedures and treatments.

Work hours:
PRN/As needed: up to 36hours per week
Variable Day Shifts; 645 AM -715 PM
Must be available toattend the 7-week summer program starting June 1st - July 24th.If selected to participate in the THP Nurse Extern 2026program, attendance is mandatory.
The remaining 6-weeks (3- two-week rotations) will be spent shadowing a RN preceptor. Externs will rotate through a variety ofunits with the opportunity to choose one rotation in Specialty Areas such as Critical Care, Emergency Department, and Women and Infants.
