Assistant crew leaders work side-by-side with crew members and crew leaders to complete work projects in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, including high altitudes. Members engage in a combination of hands-on projects and service-learning activities focused on environmental awareness, community engagement and personal and professional skill development. Projects may include a variety of unauthorized trail closure, maintenance and rehabilitation.
Assistant crew leaders are AmeriCorps members, earning a bi-weekly stipend of $1,570.00. AmeriCorps members also earn an education award of $2,817.14, upon successful completion of the season and are eligible to participate in the AmeriCorps Student Loan Forbearance Program. This position may also qualify for academic credit or internship.

Crew Details NOCO Places Trail Assistant Crew Leader (Camping): is a temporary position from June 1 - October 2. Crew will perform various trail maintenance and restoration projects on unauthorized social trails across Larimer, Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Jefferson Counties in Northern Colorado. The focus of this crew is to close social trails, maintain and rehabilitate existing trails and educate the public about trail sustainability. This crew will work with a variety of local, state and federal land management agencies throughout the season. The crew will camp at various designated and dispersed campgrounds near the work site.
Crew Schedule Assistant Crew Leaders are expected to serve 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and attend a staff meeting on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to noon. If on a camping crew, crew leaders must camp Monday - Wednesday, returning to Fort Collins after working on Thursday. Meals will be provided while camping.
Certificate Schedule Wilderness First Aid will be provided early June in Fort Collins.
This schedule may be modified due to holidays, training, weather, logistics, or other unforeseen circumstances. Training dates will be coordinated and communicated.
Project Implementation: - Complete trail maintenance and rehabilitation across Northern Colorado - Perform duties expected of any crew member including conservation work, meal preparation, camp clean up, and other day-to-day duties - Demonstrate the safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment - Safely drive a vehicle and trailer - Use technology to accurately complete digital daily and weekly logs - Implement Larimer County Conservation Corps policies and procedures - Coordinate logistics with project sponsors, program coordinator, and corps manager - Report directly to the crew leader, position to be filled.
The Larimer County Conservation Corps is hiring for a variety of positions. Please apply separately for all LCCC positions for which you would like to be considered. What you'll be doing:
Mentor a crew of four AmeriCorps crew members, ages 18 to 30, daily.
Motivate and encourage others to work and persevere in difficult and physically challenging work settings.
Support crew leader in crew development of teamwork, self worth, conflict resolution, effective communication, goal setting, decision making, and the building of community within the crew.
Monitor the physical and emotional safety of the crew.
Assist in training crew, in areas including, but not limited to, proper tool use, trail maintenance and Leave No Trace principles.
Maintain a safe working environment and enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Assist in the facilitation of team building activities, environmental education, and job/life skills curriculum on a regular basis, or as projects determine appropriate.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Background working in a team environment, providing supervision to a diverse group, preferably youth
Proficient troubleshooting and conflict management skills
Previous conservation corps experience
Higher Education in natural resources or an education-related field; or work experience equivalent

Must be at least 16 years of age; depending on grant funding, some opportunities may only be available to participants 18 years of age or older.
