The Controller plays a critical leadership role in this environment, serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership while overseeing the integrity, transparency, and effectiveness of the College’s financial operations. What You’ll Do

As Controller, you will lead the Finance Office’s accounting function and provide strategic and operational oversight across a multi-campus organization. You will directly supervise an accounting team of nine and play a key role in financial stewardship and institutional decision-making.

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and best practices
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and auditable financial records across all campuses
  • Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Own and manage the general ledger and chart of accounts, including review and approval of journal entries
  • Oversee account reconciliations and ensure accuracy across all funds and entities

Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Serve as primary liaison for the annual external audit
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls and financial procedures
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and grant-related requirements
  • Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory changes impacting higher education

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

  • Lead development of annual operating and capital budgets across campuses
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and support fiscal discipline
  • Provide forecasting, modeling, and financial insights to support executive decision-making

Treasury, Risk & Financial Oversight

  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships
  • Oversee institutional insurance programs and risk management activities
  • Review and manage financial components of contracts and agreements

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of nine accounting professionals
  • Establish performance expectations, workflows, and professional development plans
  • Collaborate with departments across campuses to support financial operations
  • Partner closely with the CFO on strategic initiatives and institutional priorities

What We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or nonprofit environments
  • Experience with ERP systems such as CAMS, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar platforms
