UPMC offers a robust Laboratory Career Ladder, where candidates will be placed into the correct level and status based on education and background; Lab Support Technician (min= $18.04) Medical Laboratory Technician (min= $21.48) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (min= $26.97) and so on! **Qualified individuals will receive an extra $2/hour for the Night Program on top of the current shift differential!**
Lab Techs will: Provide authority, responsibility and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory testing of a routine and advanced nature. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and in the evaluation of a patient's response to treatment. Apply competent clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical testing which leads to quality patient care outcomes.
Hours: Straight nights - 11PM - 7:30AM
Responsibilities:
Laboratory Support Tech (LST):
High School diploma or equivalent, and at least 2yrs experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) required in a clinical lab
OR Associate degree (with biology and chemistry courses) and at least 1yr of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab
OR Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification and 1yr of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab
OR Successful completion of a 50wk U.S. military medical laboratory training course
OR B.S. degree from an accredited institution with a major in a biological or clinical laboratory science
OR Currently enrolled in a MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent training program, with 3 yrs college credits required.
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT):
Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA)
OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science
OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
Experience: Minimum 1 years' experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS or MT):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program,
OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification
OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory
OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 and PA Bureau of Laboratories for technologist performing high complexity testing. Prefer 1 year experience in a hospital laboratory. Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Medical Technologist MT(ASCP), Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS(ASCP), or equivalent certification preferred. New York License required for NY locations.
