Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Utilizes the appropriate protocols as outlined in national, state, ASET, APT, ASDA, Infection Control and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures where applicable without direct supervision. Adheres to the mission and values of Lourdes by presenting a courteous, pleasant and helpful manner to patients, physicians, subordinates, fellow staff members and the general public. Screens, determines and incorporates specialized systems to enhance the technical quality of the procedure being conducted. Understand the testing equipment in detail including its structure, function, indications for use, physiological effect upon the patient, and basic maintenance procedures. Be able to apply principles of anatomy and physiology to procedures performed.

Essential Job Functions

Administers various neurodiagnostic procedures without direct supervision while utilizing the appropriate protocols. (Must be able to work behind headboard of patient's bed to apply electrodes)

Operate neurodiagnostic equipment to obtain diagnostic recordings following established protocols while manually controlling equipment to obtain pertinent waveforms.

Deciphers normal from abnormal to obtain appropriate or additional test which demonstrate the abnormality.

Monitors the quality of the test being conducted while assuring prudent resource management

Reviews clinical data from medical records and patient interview to base testing modalities on the information obtained and writes a detailed, accurate technical report to aid physicians in interpretation of test collected

Reviews studies with physicians to clarify any discrepancies and does any additional testing required

Performs ambulatory and in-patient neurodiagnostic procedures as ordered.

Assists in department orientation and training of new staff members

Performs all Quality Control activities for all neurology equipment as per QC standards and policy

Education

High School Diploma

2 year/Associates Degree - preferred

Required CPR

Registry with America Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist

Three or more years working in a clinical setting providing neurodiagnostic testing or polysomnography or respiratory therapy services.

Knowledge of one or more of the following: EEG, EKG, EMG, Holter Monitoring, EPs, Nerve Conduction Studies, Long-Term Monitoring in Epilepsy; Interest in sciences with emphasis on neuro anatomy and electronics
