Position Overview

The NC Programming Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate NC programs along with current file revisions for both production and custom parts. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings to create flat pattern layouts, collaborating directly with client engineering teams, and reverse engineering components to meet manufacturing requirements. Responsibilities also include selecting appropriate machines, tooling, and materials to ensure cost-effective production, as well as designing and coordinating tooling procurement when necessary. In addition, the role requires preparing detailed work instructions, including standardized setup sheets and assembly guidelines, while leveraging CAD/CAM software to improve programming efficiency and reduce run times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain NC programs and ensure all part file revisions are up to date
  • Interpret engineering blueprints to develop flat pattern layouts for parts
  • Collaborate closely with client engineering teams
  • Reverse engineer components to support manufacturing processes
  • Select machines and tooling to achieve the most cost-effective production methods
  • Design and initiate procurement of required tooling
  • Develop detailed standardized work instructions and setup sheets
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software to continuously improve programming efficiency and machine run time
  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of mathematics including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, and their applications
  • Critical thinking skills to solve complex problems
  • Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles related to production and interpretation of technical drawings, specifically for sheet metal fabrication
  • Knowledge of raw materials, fabrication processes, bend deductions, turret punch press tooling, quality control, and cost optimization techniques
  • Strong time management skills
  • Dependability with a focus on completing tasks accurately and thoroughly
  • Persistence in overcoming challenges
  • Engineering background with strong mechanical aptitude preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience programming CNC punch press machines in sheet metal fabrication
  • Knowledge of precision CNC machinery, fabrication and machining practices, material properties, and application of mathematical principles to production equipment and tooling
  • Ability to integrate existing processes with innovative solutions to resolve production challenges efficiently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Required

  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and Inventor for sheet metal fabrication
  • Familiarity with Amada VPSS Blanking and BobCAM software preferred
  • Ability to read, write, edit, and troubleshoot G-code for production and technical issues
