Natural Resource Technician II

This employee will be responsible for assisting with habitat development work within Unit 4-C (Donnelley, Bear Island, Botany Bay and Edisto River WMA).
Job Duties Include:
  • Assisting with habitat management activities including agricultural plantings, prescribed burning and mowing.
  • Assisting with the implementation of public hunting on public hunting lands.
  • Providing assistance to WMA hunt participants and collecting necessary biological data as directed.
  • Assisting with the construction and installation of water control structures, bulkehads, grade stabilization structures, etc.
  • Assisting with wetland habitat management activities such as burning and water level management.
  • Performing maintenance on grounds including mowing dikes, grounds, roads and open areas.
  • Preparing and maintaining records and reports as required.
  • Performing maintenance of physical structures including: painting and minor repairs to gates, buildings and other structures as needed.
  • Assisting with the construction and maintenance of signage for Unit 4-C.
  • Assisting with the collection of data including: dove banding, waterfowl banding and surveys.
A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work or an associate degree in the technical sciences.Knowledge of wildlife management techniques. Ability to operate and repair heavy equipment, tractors, farm implements, power and hand tools. Ability to conduct public hunts. Ability to work independently and perform strenuous tasks. Ability to get along and communicate with fellow employees and the general public. Ability to perform agricultural activities such as disking, mowing, planting and herbicide application. Ability to assist with control burns.
