In this position you will plan and implement music-based instruction to students at the School for Integrated Learning (West Chester) and the CARES School (Downingtown). This position is shared between the two school programs. The School for Integrated Learning and CARES School both serve a population of students age 5-21, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. Each student receives individualized education focused on his or her unique strengths and needs.
Every day as a Music Therapist you will....
Creates lessons that promote communication and language development, social interaction and peer engagement, self-regulation and emotional expression, motor coordination and sensory integration
Provides structured group music activities, differentiating instruction to ensure access for all students
Collaborates with special education teachers andrelated service providers to align activities/instruction with student needs

The School for Integrated Learning, located in West Chester, Pa [390 E. Boot Road, West Chester PA 19380],focuses on building upon the unique strengths of each student. Our school strives to offer a breadth of opportunities for students to express themselves and find personal levels of accomplishment through activities such as: Special Olympics, talent shows and school dances, student government, peer mentoring, service learning, community gardening, and employment education, both in the classroom and in the community.
Devereux Center for Autism Research and Education Services (CARES) [600 W. Boot Road, Downingtown PA 19335] is an educational program licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that provides services to students, ages 5 to 21, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. CARES provides an environment that focuses on teaching each student based on his or her unique strengths and needs. Programming is focused on increasing independence for each student.
Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) center serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives. A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments. Each year, more than 1,000 children and adolescents receive specialized care, in the environment best suited to the unique challenges they face, all with the goal of providing each child with the academic, social, emotional and life skills needed to flourish in their home community.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; MA preferred. Music Therapist-Board certified credential preferred
EXPERIENCE: Experience in an educational setting working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and/or mental health disorders leading group sessions/activities and integration of music into classroom activities and school-wide programming.Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Valid driver's license must be maintained.
