GADSDEN ARTS CENTER & MUSEUM POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT – MUSEUM EDUCATOR II (3.27.26) We’re seeking a dynamic and creative Museum Educator to lead an exciting new school outreach initiative at the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum. This full-time, two-year position will focus on building meaningful connections between the museum and K–12 students, teachers, and school leaders across public and private schools. The Museum Educator will design and deliver engaging, exhibition-based learning experiences that extend beyond the museum walls—developing lessons inspired by major exhibitions and the permanent collection, and aligning them with state learning standards across disciplines such as art, literacy, history, science, and math. This role also involves cultivating strong partnerships with educators, coordinating school visits, and creating impactful pre-visit, onsite, and post-visit programming. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and passionate about arts education and community engagement. Responsibilities include planning and evaluating the outreach program, implementing classroom and museum-based instruction, coordinating logistics such as transportation and scheduling, and supporting program marketing and communication. The Museum Educator will also contribute to program evaluation, reporting, and content development for fundraising and grants, while working closely with museum staff to refine and grow the program. This position follows a Monday–Friday schedule with occasional Saturdays and reports directly to the Executive Director. Salary commensurate with experience. Following a first interview, select candidates will be asked to develop and submit a standards-correlated interdisciplinary pre-visit lesson plan for students in grades 5-8, based on a piece from the Gadsden Arts Permanent Collection (viewable on our website). We will schedule that candidate to give a guided presentation of that work of art at Gadsden Arts, as if leading the guided tour that would follow that in-classroom lesson. Position Title: Museum Educator II – School Outreach Employment Type: Full-Time, Two-Year Position Salary Range: $42,000 - $50,000 plus benefits Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (occasional Saturdays required) Reports To: Executive Director Position Summary The Museum Educator II – School Outreach is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive school outreach program that connects K–12 students, teachers, and principals with exhibition-based learning at the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum. This position will create meaningful educational experiences rooted in the museum’s major exhibitions and permanent collection, while building strong partnerships with local schools. The program will include pre-visit, onsite, and post-visit learning opportunities designed to support interdisciplinary education and align with state learning standards. Key Responsibilities Program Development & Implementation • Design, implement, and evaluate a new School Outreach program • Develop lesson plans based on major exhibitions and the permanent collection • Integrate interdisciplinary content (art, literacy, visual literacy, history, science, math, etc.) into programming • Align all lessons and activities with state curriculum standards • Create and recommend program policies, procedures, and supporting materials School & Community Engagement • Build and maintain relationships with school principals, teachers, and administrators • Conduct school site visits to introduce and promote the outreach program • Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to engage schools • Respond to program inquiries and coordinate scheduling with participating schools Program Delivery & Coordination • Facilitate classroom-based sessions, museum tours, and hands-on studio activities • Coordinate school visits, including transportation logistics as needed • Collaborate with Museum Educator I to schedule staff and volunteers for field trips • Assist with preparation and coordination of Art Guides Evaluation & Reporting • Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess program effectiveness • Collect and analyze data, including participation metrics, surveys, and student work samples • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly progress reports to the Executive Director Collaboration & Institutional Support • Work closely with the Executive Director and Curator to refine and strengthen the program • Provide photographs, lesson materials, and student work samples for marketing and fundraising • Assist with content development for marketing, fundraising, and grant applications Qualifications & Attributes The Museum Educator II should be: • A reliable professional who takes personal responsibility for producing high-quality work • Willing to commit to a full-time, two-year position with GACM • A creative and enthusiastic program planner who finds this work engaging and rewarding • A collaborative team player who can also work independently • Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing needs and accept direction from senior staff • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines Required Qualifications & Skills • BA, BFA, BS or equivalent degree in art education, studio art, art history, elementary education, museum studies, or a related field • Experience teaching and managing classrooms with children • Experience in museum-based art education • Strong lesson planning and classroom management skills • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to manage a supply budget and oversee purchasing of materials • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, Zoom, and Canva • Strong research, writing, and general computer skills • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including moving supplies, tables, and chairs, and lifting up to 40 pounds • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle; travel to and from schools will be by personal vehicle with mileage reimbursed at the federal mileage rate • Successful completion of a Level II background check Preferred / Developing Skills • Graduate degree in art education, studio art, art history, elementary education, museum studies, or a related field • Experience leading museum tours for children and/or adults • Familiarity with email marketing and social media platforms General Staff Expectations All Gadsden Arts Center & Museum staff are expected to: • Maintain knowledge of the museum’s policies, exhibitions, programs, and organizational history • Adhere to the established work schedule; any changes must be requested in writing and approved by the Executive Director • Follow all museum policies and procedures related to their role • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director
