Overview

BBVA is seeking an experienced Vice President to join its Latin America Public Sector & Multilateral Institutions team within Corporate & Investment Banking. The role will focus on managing and expanding strategic relationships with multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, and other supranational entities across the LATAM region.


The successful candidate will play a key role in originating, structuring, and executing complex financing solutions, leveraging BBVA’s global platform and strong expertise in public sector and multilateral financing. This position requires deep knowledge of multilateral institutions, public sector financing frameworks, and risk mitigation structures, as well as strong internal coordination skills.


Key Responsibilities Coverage & Relationship Management

  • Act as a senior coverage banker for multilateral and supranational institutions in Latin America, maintaining long-term, trusted relationships at both headquarters and regional levels.
  • Lead strategic dialogue with clients to understand institutional mandates, funding strategies, and development priorities.
  • Position BBVA as a key partner for balance sheet financing, risk mitigation, and capital markets solutions


Business Origination & Development

  • Identify and originate new business opportunities with multilateral institutions, aligned with BBVA’s strategic priorities in the public sector.
  • Deliver tailored solutions across BBVA’s corporate and investment banking products, including bilateral and syndicated loans, structured financing, treasury solutions, guarantees, risk-sharing structures, trade finance, and capital markets transactions.
  • Support cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions involving sovereigns, sub-sovereigns, and public sector counterparties.


Transaction Structuring & Execution

  • Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of complex transactions, including structured credit, project-related financings, and debt capital markets instruments.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle, from origination to closing.
  • Ensure high-quality execution in line with BBVA’s credit, risk, and compliance standards.


Internal Coordination & Governance

  • Work closely with Credit Risk, Global Risk Management, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Sustainability, and Capital Markets teams to structure transactions and navigate approval processes.
  • Collaborate with product specialists across BBVA’s global network to deliver integrated and innovative solutions to multilateral clients.


Market & Institutional Insight

  • Monitor macroeconomic trends, regulatory developments, and geopolitical dynamics affecting multilateral institutions and the Latin American public sector.
  • Leverage institutional knowledge to provide strategic insights to clients and inform internal decision-making.


Risk & Compliance

  • Proactively identify, assess, and manage credit, reputational, and operational risks associated with multilateral and public sector transactions.
  • Ensure full compliance with BBVA’s internal policies, ESG standards, and applicable regulatory frameworks.


Leadership & Team Contribution

  • Support the development and mentoring of junior bankers within the public sector team.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance culture aligned with BBVA’s values.


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.


Experience

  • More than 7 years of relevant experience in corporate and/or investment banking, with a strong focus on multilateral institutions
  • Proven experience covering or executing transactions with multilateral development banks, DFIs, or supranational entities, ideally in Latin America.


Licenses

  • FINRA SIE, Series 7, 79, and 63 licenses required (or ability to obtain within 6 months)


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of multilateral institutions’ business models, funding structures, and risk mitigation tools.
  • Demonstrated experience structuring and executing complex financing transactions, including structured loans, guarantees, and capital markets products.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required; Portuguese is a plus.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $170,000 to $220,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
