HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT
Position SummaryThe Surgery Scheduler & Referral Coordinator is responsible for coordinating surgical cases and managing referral workflows for cardiothoracic surgeons. This role ensures timely scheduling, accurate documentation, insurance authorization, and seamless communication between patients, providers, hospitals, and referring practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule surgical procedures and coordinate operating room availability and pre-operative requirements
- Process and manage incoming referrals, ensuring complete documentation and timely patient access
- Schedule patient consultations, testing, and procedures
- Obtain and track insurance authorizations for referrals and surgeries
- Communicate with patients, referring provider offices, Primary Care Physicians, Insurance companies, surgeons, APPs, and hospital departments
- Maintain accurate records and tracking in Epic EMR, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
- Ensure compliance with payer, hospital, and practice policies
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO APPLY
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–2 years of experience in medical or surgical scheduling, referrals, and/or care coordination
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and insurance authorization processes
- Strong computer skills; Epic experience preferred
- Experience in a surgical specialty, preferably cardiothoracic, preferred
