JOB TITLE:  

Camp GEAR UP Residential Team Leader June 15-18, 2026, held on UW campus.

JOB PURPOSE:  

To “role model” the value of learning and higher education through active participation in Camp GEAR UP events and activities provided to GEAR UP Wyoming high school participants.  The position will require Team Leaders to stay in UW residence halls and supervise Camp GEAR UP student participants.  Some Team Leaders will be assigned to night supervision, requiring working from “lights out” to breakfast the following morning.

Pay: $1,200  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • To attend REQUIRED staff trainings prior to camp. Training will include first aid, staffing responsibilities and a review of GEAR UP Wyoming and UW policies and procedures, and a training session with CoolSpeak staff focused on implementing the CoolSpeak curriculum with fidelity and consistency.  (Training dates/times to be determined.)
  • To responsibly supervise and lead a team of high school aged GEAR UP Wyoming participants for the duration of the camp.  This requires being “on-call” when needed, e.g., fulfilling night crew hours.
  • To promote teamwork and cohesiveness among GEAR UP Wyoming participants and staff.
  • To encourage cooperation, group decision-making, and individual and group responsibility among GEAR UP Wyoming participants and staff.
  • To be responsible for the implementation and administration of GEAR UP Wyoming and UW summer rules and regulations.
  • To participate in all group activities and assist in organizing/orchestrating participant activities.
  • To attend staff meetings and trainings as required.  To listen carefully and be able to disseminate information correctly and in a timely fashion.
  • To reside in UW’s residence halls June 15-18, 2026, in order to provide participant supervision and guidance.
  • To assist with residence hall preparation prior to camp and breakdown upon camp completion. This will include, but is not limited to, residence hall set-up and preparation of common areas, cleaning of common areas during camp, and sorting and distributing materials and supplies before, during, and after camp.
  • To refrain from using tobacco products for the duration of camp. This includes both off- and on-duty hours. 
  • To refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages for the duration of camp. This includes both off- and on-duty hours. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Complete and upload all required application materials.
  • Current college student in good academic standing who has completed at least one year of college after high school. 
  • Pass the required background check.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Preference will be given to applicants who participated in GEAR UP during high school.

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
