Mission Operator - Autonomous Ground Systems
Paso Robles, CA
$120K–$140K
I'm partnering with a cutting-edge defense technology company to find a Mission Operator for their unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) programme. My client is building some of the most advanced autonomous ground systems in the industry — and they need operators who can bring those platforms to life in the field.
The Role
This is a hands-on, field-heavy position sitting at the intersection of engineering, operations, and customer engagement. You'll be forward-deployed as both operator and field engineer — running live missions, supporting high-visibility customer demonstrations, and keeping autonomous systems mission-ready at all times.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading forward-deployed operations of autonomous and semi-autonomous ground systems in complex, real-world environments
- Executing and adapting mission test plans in dynamic conditions while maintaining strict safety and operational standards
- Acting as the on-site technical authority — diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and software issues in real time
- Interfacing directly with high-priority customers and stakeholders, briefing capabilities and conducting live demos
- Coordinating end-to-end field logistics including deployment, sustainment, and recovery
- Capturing field insights and feeding them back to engineering and product teams to drive rapid iteration
- Enforcing disciplined safety practices across personnel, equipment, and autonomous system operations
What My Client Is Looking For
- 2–6 years of experience in military field operations (combat arms preferred) or defence field ops
- Hands-on experience operating systems in austere or dynamic environments
- Strong technical troubleshooting ability across hardware and software
- Confident representing technical capability in front of customers and senior stakeholders
- A proactive, safety-first mindset
