Job Title: Mill Worker (Mill Helper / Material Handler)
Job Description

This role supports mill operations by handling materials, assisting the Mill Operator, and ensuring products meet quality and safety specifications. You will operate a sit-down forklift, perform weighing and measuring tasks, enter production data into the computer system, and help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. This position works on a shift schedule that includes training on third shift.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Mill Operator to move materials safely and efficiently using a sit-down forklift.
  • Load materials coming off the production line and pack them into boxes or baskets according to specifications.
  • Weigh products to ensure they meet required specifications and document results accurately.
  • Measure products using calipers, tape measures, and other tools to confirm they meet dimensional requirements.
  • Enter weight, measurements, and other production data into the computer system accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Read and follow instructions on each production order to ensure adherence to customer requirements and company quality policies.
  • Ensure materials are weighed and packaged according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Keep boxes or baskets made up for both lines and organize and stack them properly for efficient workflow.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the unloading area and workstations to prevent contamination, hazards, and production delays.
  • Clean tools and maintain tool boards to ensure tools are available, safe, and in good working condition.
  • Practice safe work habits at all times and report unsafe conditions, actions, or equipment malfunctions immediately to supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with production and warehouse teams to coordinate material flow and address issues promptly.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of product or process issues and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Perform general production, assembly, inspection, labeling, and chemical mixing tasks as required to support operations.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely for production and material handling tasks.
  • Stand in a stationary position for the entirety of the shift while performing production duties.
Essential Skills
  • Experience working in a production, manufacturing, or general labor environment.
  • Ability to operate a sit-down forklift to move materials safely around the facility.
  • Ability to read and follow written production orders and instructions accurately.
  • Proficiency in weighing and measuring products using scales, calipers, tape measures, and related tools.
  • Basic computer skills for accurate data entry of weights, measurements, and production information.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely in a production setting.
  • Capability to perform inspection and labeling tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand in a stationary position for the entirety of the shift.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a machine operator, operator assistant, or in machine operation is beneficial.
  • Experience with changeovers and setup in a production or manufacturing environment is an advantage.
  • Background in chemical mixing or handling is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic product or process issues and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills to keep work areas, tools, boxes, and materials orderly and ready for use.
  • Comfort working in an environment that can be dirty due to the nature of the product.

Work Environment

You will work directly with a small team in a production and warehouse setting that is not climate controlled, so indoor temperatures reflect outdoor conditions and can become very hot in the summer. The environment can be dirty due to the nature of the product, and showers are available onsite for those who wish to use them after their shift. The role requires standing in a stationary position for the entire shift and working around production equipment, forklifts, and material handling areas. You will use tools such as sit-down forklifts, hand tools, power tools, calipers, tape measures, scales, and computer systems as part of daily operations. Training occurs on third shift, with hours including Sunday–Monday 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. and then 9:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. Tuesday–Wednesday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Statesville, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
