IowaWORKS has an opening for a bilingual (English/Spanish) dynamic, customer focused, Migrant Seasonal Farm Worker (MSFW) Outreach Specialist to provide critical services to agricultural workers and employers in Iowa located in our IowaWorks Des Moines, IA office. In this important role, you will provide outreach to MSFWs where they live, work and gather to ensure they receive equitable access to important workforce related services and referrals.

Position Details

  • Location: 200 Army Post Rd., Des Moines, IA
  • Schedule: Full-time | Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Hybrid telework and alternate work schedule opportunities after 6-months of employment has been completed

What You’ll Do

As an Outreach Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Communicate in both English and Spanish to promote agency and partner programs and services to farm workers and agriculture employers.
  • Provide the full range of individualized and career services to IowaWORKScustomers in both English and Spanish including but not limited to identifying farm worker employment and/or training goals and providing a basic summary of farmworker rights.
  • Provide career and/or employment guidance and training information; refer customers to job search, training providers and/or support service resources.
  • Network and build strong relationships with other service providers and entities that also serve migrant and seasonal farmworkers.
  • Assist agricultural employers in meeting their hiring needs.
  • Provide information to farm workers and employers about complaint/concern processes.
  • Travel throughout a designated area to conduct outreach activities.

A successful candidate with have a passion for people and advocating on behalf of the farm works in Iowa.

The ability to understand, speak, read, and write Spanish to provide service to Spanish speaking customersGraduation from an accredited four-year college or university;ORan equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of full-time public contact work obtaining, analyzing and evaluating data such as job/claims interviewing, testing, referral and/or placement, sales representative, credit investigation, or related public contact work dealing with job applicants and employers in a variety of supportive clerical and outreach functions for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years;ORemployees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to twelve months of full-time work as a Workforce Associate.
