Job Title: 1st Shift MIG Welder
Job Description

This role focuses on complete MIG welding and fabrication work on mild steel components, including measuring, cutting, bending, fitting, and assembling frames. You will set up your own welding equipment, work from blueprints and measurements, and produce high-quality structural welds in multiple positions using Miller welding machines and a variety of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding on mild steel ranging from 12-gauge to 1 inch thickness in flat, vertical down, and overhead positions.
  • Independently set up welding machines and prepare jobs, including selecting appropriate settings and materials.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and build steel frames according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Use hand and power tools, including tape measures and other measuring tools, to prepare and fabricate components accurately.
  • Fit and assemble structural steel components to meet dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Grind and polish welds to achieve clean, finished surfaces and meet quality standards.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to complete fabrication tasks.
  • Perform flux core and structural steel welding as needed for production and fabrication work.
  • Inspect completed welds and assemblies for accuracy, structural integrity, and overall quality.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, following all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and project deadlines.
Essential Skills
  • Extensive MIG welding experience on mild steel, including 12-gauge to 1 inch thickness.
  • Ability to weld in flat, vertical down, and overhead positions with consistent quality.
  • Experience setting up welding equipment, including Miller welders, for various jobs.
  • At least 5 years of MIG welding experience on mild steel.
  • Strong fabrication skills, including measuring, cutting, bending, and building frames.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Confident use of a tape measure and other measuring tools for precise fabrication.
  • Experience with flux core welding and structural steel work.
  • Ability to perform fitting and assembly of steel components.
  • Skilled use of hand and power tools commonly used in metal fabrication and welding.
  • Capability to grind and polish welds to a high-quality finish.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing structurally sound and accurate work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in working as a complete welder handling full fabrication tasks, not just production welding.
  • Experience in a structural steel or fabrication shop environment.
  • Comfort working in a growing, fast-paced shop with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing to a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for fitting and fabrication challenges.

Work Environment

This is a 1st shift position working a 4-day, 10-hour schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional additional work as needed. The shop employs roughly 80 people and is planning to grow significantly. The work takes place in an iron works district facility and will transition to a new, modern building with ample space, high ceilings, great lighting, and updated machinery. The environment is laid back yet production-focused, with a strong emphasis on quality and safety. You will work with Miller welders, structural steel, and a variety of hand and power tools in a fabrication shop setting. Personal protective equipment includes steel-toed shoes, eye protection, and hearing protection, which are required while on the shop floor.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $60000.00/yr.
