IMMEDIATE OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE
The CommLaw Group, PLLC is seeking a talented, experienced, and highly organized Mid-Level to Senior Associate Attorney or Of Counsel to join our regulatory, transactional, and compliance team serving clients in the communications, technology, infrastructure, and regulated services sectors.
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Tysons Corner, Virginia, with flexible work-from-home availability up to two days per week.
This is not a traditional associate role limited to discrete research, drafting, or task execution. We are looking for a client-ready attorney who can operate as both a legal advisor and project manager — someone comfortable working at the intersection of legal service delivery, client relationship management, regulatory strategy, team coordination, and hands-on execution. The successful candidate will help manage multidisciplinary teams of attorneys and professionals across different practice areas while also taking ownership of client-facing engagements and driving projects from intake through completion.
The ideal candidate is an independent operator: an attorney who can quickly understand a client’s business objectives, identify the moving parts, organize the right internal resources, track deliverables, manage timelines, communicate clearly, and ensure that sophisticated legal and regulatory work is completed with discipline, accuracy, and practical business judgment.
This role is especially well-suited for an attorney with experience managing complex legal, regulatory, consulting, compliance, telecom, technology, or professional-services projects, including wireless market entry, VoIP market entry, broadband and communications service launches, regulatory approvals, multi-state compliance programs, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, restructurings, and transactions with federal and state regulatory implications.
The CommLaw Group is reaffirming the practical, entrepreneurial, client-centered model on which the firm was founded, while actively building a modern legal-service platform for the AI era. We are adopting technology platforms and responsible AI tools to provide our attorneys and professionals with safe, ethical, capable resources that improve efficiency, research, analysis, organization, project execution, and client service. We view AI as an enhancement to professional judgment, not a replacement for it.
We are also a firm that does not default to the traditional billable-hour model. We believe many clients are better served through thoughtful scopes of work, fixed-fee arrangements, phased engagements, project-based pricing, and other alternative fee arrangements that promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency. This role will be central to helping define, manage, and deliver engagements in a way that aligns expectations, controls scope, supports client confidence, and ensures that the right professionals are working on the right projects at the right price.
Key Responsibilities
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone with no less than five years of relevant experience, with a preference for candidates in the seven-to-twelve-plus year range.
You bring structure to complexity. You are organized, disciplined, practical, and comfortable managing many moving pieces at once. You can work with attorneys who have different styles, specialties, and expectations, and you know how to keep a team aligned without creating unnecessary friction.
You are calm, steady, and organized under pressure. You value careful planning over ad hoc firefighting, but you are not afraid to step into the breach when circumstances require it. You are at your best when a matter is complex, fast-moving, or loosely defined, and you can bring order to the chaos by identifying priorities, clarifying roles, establishing realistic timelines, improving communication, and creating a disciplined path forward.
You are client-ready. You can communicate with executives, founders, in-house counsel, investors, compliance leaders, and operational teams in a polished and practical manner. You understand that clients want clarity, predictability, and confidence, and you can translate complicated legal and regulatory workflows into organized plans that businesspeople can understand and trust.
The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
Legal project management, professional-services project management, consulting, regulatory compliance, telecommunications, technology, corporate transactions, due diligence support, business restructuring, or complex client engagement management.
Communications regulatory matters involving VoIP, wireless, broadband, CLECs, interexchange carriers, resellers, SaaS-enabled communications, telecom taxes and fees, USF, 911, state PUC obligations, FCC filings, or related compliance frameworks.
Coordinating multidisciplinary teams that include attorneys, consultants, tax professionals, technical specialists, compliance personnel, and client stakeholders.
Managing engagements under fixed-fee, phased-fee, project-based, subscription, retainer, or other alternative fee arrangements.
Using project-management, collaboration, document-management, CRM, workflow, knowledge-management, or AI-enabled tools in a professional-services environment.
Personal Characteristics
The right person will be steady, confident, highly organized, and accountable. You take ownership of outcomes. You are not intimidated by complexity. You can manage details without losing sight of the broader commercial objective. You can work independently, but you also know when to escalate, when to ask for strategic input, and when to bring the right professionals into the conversation.
You have a practical, client-centered mindset. You understand that legal and regulatory services must be delivered in a way that makes sense for clients’ businesses, budgets, timing pressures, and risk tolerance. You believe in excellent work, but you also understand that excellence includes efficiency, clarity, and commercial judgment.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with experience. The expected salary range is $175,000 to $225,000, with a supplemental EWYK element providing a 35% revenue share above 2.5x cost.
The firm offers a full benefits package, including top 1% healthcare coverage with a funded HSA, 4% 401(k) match, dental coverage, and vision coverage.
