About the role
A nationally recognized Intellectual Property Group at a leading Los Angeles firm is seeking a mid-level associate to join a sophisticated practice serving clients across entertainment, consumer products, beauty, food & beverage, fashion, media, software, and emerging technologies. This is a rare opportunity to develop deep client relationships at a firm known for strategic, business-oriented counsel.
What you'll do
Trademark Prosecution & Brand Protection Conduct trademark clearance searches and availability analyses Prepare and file USPTO trademark applications and draft office action responses Manage trademark portfolios including maintenance, renewals, and global prosecution coordination with foreign counsel Advise clients on brand selection, protectability, and filing strategy
Brand Enforcement & Disputes
Draft and respond to cease-and-desist letters involving trademark, copyright, and NIL/publicity rights Prepare and manage TTAB proceedings including oppositions and cancellations Develop and execute takedown strategies across digital platforms and online marketplaces Collaborate with the litigation team on IP-related disputes
Advice & Counsel
Advise on copyright, NIL/publicity rights, trademark, trade dress, and brand issues arising in transactions, product launches, and marketing campaigns Counsel on co-branding, brand licensing, and authorized use programs Review advertising, packaging, and promotional materials for trademark and FTC compliance
IP Transactions
Draft and negotiate trademark license agreements, coexistence agreements, and IP provisions in commercial contracts Support IP diligence in M&A and investment transactions Draft manufacturing, distribution, endorsement, and independent contractor agreements
Required qualifications
3–5 years of substantive trademark experience at a law firm, including prosecution, enforcement, and client counseling Direct experience preparing and filing USPTO trademark applications and drafting office action responses Experience drafting and negotiating commercial, IP, and/or technology agreements Working knowledge of domestic and international trademark prosecution frameworks Ability to manage a docket and handle multiple client matters independently Strong academic credentials, legal writing, and analytical skills California Bar admission
Preferred qualifications
Experience with brand enforcement programs, online marketplace takedowns, and UDRP domain disputes Exposure to IP provisions in commercial transactions (license agreements, M&A diligence, supply agreements) Industry background in consumer products, media, beauty, or food & beverage Familiarity with tech transactional agreements (MSAs, SaaS licenses) and copyright registration matters
Compensation
$250,000 – $280,000 base salary, commensurate with experience. Highly competitive benefits package.
