Metal Surface Grinding Machinist
Location: Stevensville / Bitterroot Valley, Western Montana
Position: Full‑Time, Day Shift
Pay Range
$24.00 – $32.00 per hour
(Approximately $50,000 – $66,500 annually, depending on experience)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Metal Surface Grinding Machinist to join our precision manufacturing shop in the Beautiful Bitterroot Valley of western Montana. This role focuses on high‑quality manual and/or CNC surface grinding work, producing tight‑tolerance components in a clean, well‑maintained shop environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual and/or CNC surface grinders to tight tolerances (commonly to ±0.0005” or better)
- Grind a variety of materials including tool steel, stainless, and hardened parts
- Interpret blueprints, travelers, and work instructions
- Perform in‑process and final inspection using precision measuring tools
- Maintain wheel selection, dressing, and machine setup
- Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Collaborate with other machinists and supervisors to meet quality and delivery goals
Qualifications
Required or Preferred (flexible for the right candidate):
- 2+ years of experience in surface grinding or
- Strong manual machining / toolroom background with willingness to train
- Ability to accurately measure down to 0.0001”
- Experience with micrometers, indicators, gage blocks, and inspection tools
- Understanding of feeds, speeds, squareness, and thermal expansion
- Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
Nice to Have:
- Grinding hardened materials
- Fixture or part setup experience
- Prototype or low‑volume work background
Schedule & Shop Environment
- Full‑time, day shift( M-Th 10 hours)
- No rotating shifts
- Climate‑controlled / grinder‑friendly environment
- Emphasis on quality over rushing parts
