Job Description :

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced MEP Department Head to lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the design, delivery, and quality of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems across municipal and private sector projects. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing departmental operations, driving technical excellence, managing resources, and supporting business development initiatives within the regional market.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with strong technical expertise, proven project management capabilities, and demonstrated success in developing client relationships and securing new work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Department Leadership
  • Provide strategic direction and operational leadership for the MEP department
  • Foster a collaborative, performance-driven team environment
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff to support professional growth and succession planning


Project Oversight

  • Oversee MEP projects from planning through completion
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards
  • Monitor project performance, staffing levels, and workload distribution
  • Technical Leadership
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for MEP systems and engineering standards
  • Provide guidance on system design, constructability, and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure implementation of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes
  • Business Development & Client Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal and private sector clients
  • Support proposal development, project pursuits, and contract negotiations
  • Identify and secure new project opportunities within the regional market
  • Collaborate with leadership to support growth strategies and market expansion
  • Operations & Resource Management
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and project schedules
  • Coordinate work across multiple offices and technical teams
  • Track performance metrics and provide regular operational reporting
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with industry trends, codes, and emerging technologies
  • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery
  • Promote innovation and best practices across engineering operations


Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (from any U.S. state)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in MEP engineering, design, or project management
  • 5+ years of leadership or management experience supervising engineering teams
  • Proven experience managing complex engineering projects
  • Demonstrated experience developing client relationships and securing new business
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience working with municipal or infrastructure-related projects
  • Experience managing regional or multi-office engineering operations
  • Familiarity with project management and financial reporting systems
  • Experience supporting proposal development and business growth initiatives
  • Experience managing remote or matrixed teams
