MEP Program Manager

Job Title: MEP Program Manager
Job Description

The MEP Program Manager oversees HVAC and plumbing design across multiple industrial and fulfillment facility projects at a program level. This role serves as the key liaison between internal design and construction teams, external engineers, and general contractors to ensure consistent, high‑quality mechanical systems are delivered on time and within budget. The position emphasizes design oversight, technical decision‑making, and portfolio‑level coordination rather than hands‑on engineering production. You will lead design reviews, drive standardization of mechanical systems, and proactively mitigate cost, schedule, and constructability risks across a broad portfolio of projects, with occasional travel to active job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee HVAC and plumbing design for multiple industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, and mission‑critical facilities at a program level.
  • Act as the bridge between internal design and construction teams, external engineering consultants, and general contractors to align expectations and deliverables.
  • Lead MEP design from early design development through construction administration, ensuring compliance with project requirements and design standards.
  • Conduct and lead mechanical design reviews, providing clear feedback and direction to consultants to maintain quality, consistency, and constructability.
  • Review and approve consultant design documents, focusing on technical quality, code compliance, and alignment with program standards rather than producing full construction documents.
  • Drive standardization of HVAC and plumbing systems, details, and specifications across a portfolio of projects to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing schedule, budget, and quality expectations while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and internal teams to resolve design issues, address RFIs, and support field teams during construction.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate cost, schedule, and constructability risks throughout the design and construction lifecycle.
  • Lead value engineering (VE) efforts and cost control initiatives without compromising performance, safety, or reliability.
  • Use BIM tools and clash detection processes to support coordination and resolve mechanical conflicts with other trades before and during construction.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and cross‑functional partners to influence and refine mechanical design standards used across the portfolio.
  • Present technical concepts, design decisions, and trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders and senior leaders in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Provide program‑level visibility into project status, risks, and design decisions, enabling informed decision‑making by leadership.
  • Guide and influence cross‑functional teams and external partners without direct reporting authority, fostering alignment and accountability.
  • Maintain impeccable organization and documentation for design reviews, approvals, and project decisions.
  • Travel occasionally to domestic construction sites to support field teams, participate in on‑site reviews, and validate design implementation.
Essential Skills
  • Multiple years of experience supporting or managing HVAC and plumbing systems for industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading MEP design through construction, including coordination with engineers, contractors, and owners.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building systems, building codes, ASHRAE standards, and relevant industry regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Experience reviewing and approving consultant design documents rather than serving as the engineer of record.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical design concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to domestic construction sites.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in BIM coordination and clash detection on developing projects.
  • Impeccable organization skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk tools, including Revit and Autodesk BIM 360.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu.
  • Program or project management experience from design development through construction administration on complex commercial or industrial projects.
  • Strong background in HVAC and plumbing systems for industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Proven experience managing MEP design through construction, including value engineering, cost control, and schedule risk mitigation.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
  • Comfort presenting technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and industry regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Owner‑side, design‑manager, or construction‑side MEP leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Revit MEP and AutoCAD for coordination and design review.
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination tools and project management software.
  • Experience working on complex commercial or industrial facilities, including logistics or fulfillment centers.
  • Experience in construction management and coordination with general contractors and trade partners.
  • Ability to operate effectively at the owner or program level while remaining connected to practical construction challenges.
  • Interest in influencing and standardizing mechanical design approaches across a national or global portfolio of facilities.
Work Environment

This is a remote role that operates at the owner and program level, providing broad visibility across multiple industrial and fulfillment facility projects rather than focusing on a single job site. The position offers the autonomy to make technical and strategic decisions while staying closely connected to real construction challenges. The team is growing, creating opportunities for career advancement and increased responsibility. While the role is remote, it is helpful to be located near a major site such as Arlington, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Nashville, TN; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Santa Monica, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; or Chicago, IL. Occasional travel to domestic construction sites is required to support field coordination and on‑site reviews. You will work extensively with digital tools and platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, Revit, Autodesk BIM 360, BIM coordination tools, and project management software, in a highly collaborative, technology‑driven environment.
