Mentor, Education Outreach - Children's Learning Institute's Texas Rising Star

UTHealth Houston and Children's Learning Institute is looking for a Mentor, Education Outreach! This role will support the Texas Rising Star State-wide team and requires the mentor to obtain Texas Rising Star Assessor Certification. Certification is not required for hire, however they must obtain certification within 3 months of hire.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, utilizing and maintaining tracking systems, creating content materials, facilitating PLCs, interpreting the Texas Rising Star Technical Scoring Manual and other Texas Rising Star documents, and coding using the Texas Rising Star assessment tool. The ideal candidate will have a work history in early childhood education, experience conducting assessments, and prior experience serving as a trainer. They will demonstrate strong presentation and public speaking abilities, excel at analyzing data, and bring a high level of attention to detail. This individual is proactive, solution-oriented, and able to effectively organize, prioritize, and manage time and tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential, along with professional verbal and written communication abilities. The candidate should be tech-savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and have experience with behavioral coding. The travel for this role will primarily be local to support unique project opportunities. There could be travel opportunities for training, but it will not be required.

Position Summary:

Manages individual, complicated projects with multiple study sites, numerous classrooms and multiple trainers and teachers. Removes administrative duties from principle investigator.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinates project activities between the Education Outreach Coordinator and the classroom teachers. Supervises and monitors implementation of training and evaluation methods in classrooms.
  • Develops and writes statewide curriculum for use in Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary and secondary schools.
  • Designs presentations and trains teachers nation-wide on the most current research information and classroom instruction techniques.
  • Translates current research into lessons for teachers. Demonstrates model lessons in classrooms for teachers; provides on-going, side-by-side coaching for teachers in classroom settings. Travels to local, state, and national training sites to evaluate classroom instruction.
  • Evaluates current school textbooks and provides feedback on how to differentiate, improve and upgrade instruction techniques.
  • Reviews national reading curriculums for Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools on an on-going basis.
  • Writes and directs classroom instructional videos.
  • Collects and reviews testing data from sites for research. Prepares executive summaries and reports upon completion of on-going classroom sites.
  • Translates classroom-teaching materials from English to Spanish.
  • May provide work direction and guidance to personnel within department.
  • May lead projects and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Knowledge of current reading research applications, experience with presenting best practices in reading, experience classroom teacher who has supervised and coached teaching.

Teaching certification with required endorsements for subject and level assigned by State of Texas preferred

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree required Master's Degree in Education preferred

Minimum Experience:

8 years in one of the following areas is required: curriculum writing, and/or managing school/child care programs, and/or designing and conducting professional development programs for teachers required May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094.
