Title: Menswear Designer
Reporting to: Vice President of Design
Brand/Product Focus: French Connection/Contemporary Sportswear
Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan – Fashion District
Key Responsibilities:
Design Functions:
Partner with the VP of Design and Senior Designer to develop seasonal collections from initial concept through final prototype approval. Conduct market and trend research, including competitive shopping, product analysis, and inspiration gathering, to support the design process. Create technical flats, colorways, presentation materials, and detailed tech packs using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop while maintaining accurate product development documentation. Participate in fittings and proto reviews, working closely with Technical Design to achieve desired fit, construction, and product integrity. Collaborate cross-functionally with Fabric, Product Development, Production, Merchandising, and overseas vendors throughout the development cycle, ensuring timely communication, approvals, and sample execution. Support seasonal color, fabric, trim, and wash development initiatives while maintaining a strong awareness of market trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape.
Qualifications & Experience
· MENSWEAR Design Experience
· 5 + years of experience in apparel design, required
· PLM experience required
· Strong understanding of contemporary menswear, including tailoring, knitwear, shirting, outerwear, and bottoms.
· Demonstrated ability to interpret market trends through a refined and commercially relevant lens.
· Expert technical skill proficiency using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, required
· Experience using AI-powered creative tools, digital research platforms, and presentation software is a plus.
· Demonstrated ability to sketch technical drawings, with strong hand sketch and competent computer design skills
· Must be able to competently correct protos, working alongside technician, identifying and resolving issues
· Demonstrated capability and knowledge of varied constructions spanning ALL categories
· Familiarity with the development process and working with overseas factories and vendors
· Fashion savvy with the critical ability to identify and interpret commercially viable trends
· Accurate attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to take independent action to follow through on open items and issue resolution to completion
· Confident, capable, highly effective cross-functional written/verbal communication, teaming and interpersonal skills
Educational Background
Bachelor’s or technical degree in Design or equivalent work experience

The pay range for this position is: $90,000 - $110,000 per year.
