Under general direction, assist with the management of a competitive NJCAA Division I athletic program. Assist with conditioning, practices, recruiting, travel arrangements, and student managers. Facilitate professionalism and promote student development.

Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


Essential Functions:

  1. Assist head coach in running team practices and off-season conditioning; assist in teaching offensive and defensive concepts; oversee drills; provide group and one-on-one instruction; assist in player development.
  2. Remain informed about student athlete's academic progress and communicate with student athletes regarding study hall requirements.
  3. Assist in overseeing the conditioning and weight training program; ensure student athletes' progress and adherence to the activities which comprise the program.
  4. Perform recruiting related activities: contact high school players through written or verbal means of communication; travel to various high schools to scout games; assess the skills and abilities of potential student athletes; view and assess high school game films, and provide feedback to head coach.
  5. Work with the head coach to plan and schedule recruitment efforts which includes assuring formal itineraries are developed and communicated to the appropriate departments (Admissions, Residence Life, Advising Center, etc.) to assure the prospective student visit is conducted in accordance with College and NJCAA policies and procedures.
  6. Make travel arrangements for the team and coaching staff for games played at other institutions; schedule departure and arrival times; make reservations for hotel accommodations; provide information to visiting coaches.
  7. Assist with organizing community service activities.
  8. Assist with organizing and operating yearly team camps.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred; completion of at least two years of college required.


Experience and Training:

Two years of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level.


License or Certificate

First Aid/CPR.


Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC’s vehicle insurance.

  • Walking: Regular movement across fields, courts, and facilities.
  • Running: Occasionally required during demonstrations or conditioning sessions.
  • Bending or Twisting the Body: Often needed when demonstrating techniques or assisting athletes.
  • Handling and Moving Objects: Includes setting up equipment, carrying gear, and managing athletic supplies.
  • Climbing: May be required when accessing bleachers, storage areas, or elevated platforms.
  • Reaching: Frequently used when organizing equipment or demonstrating movements.

Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to Weather: Often works outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Noise Levels: High noise environments during games and practices.
  • Hazardous Conditions: Potential exposure to minor injuries or accidents during athletic activities.

Sensory Requirements
  • Near Vision: Required for reading schedules, rosters, and game plans.
  • Far Vision: Important for observing athlete performance and game dynamics.
  • Hearing Sensitivity: Necessary for responding to whistles, calls, and verbal cues.
  • Speech Clarity: Must be able to communicate clearly with athletes, staff, and officials.

Manual Dexterity
  • Finger Dexterity: Needed for using computers, writing reports, and handling small equipment.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness: Useful when demonstrating techniques or handling gear.

Physical Strength
  • Medium Work Level: May need to lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g., equipment bags, training gear).
