Job Description:

A full-time opportunity is available for a Medical Technologist I to perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory testing within an acute care setting. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The position requires strong technical expertise, critical thinking, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment while supporting quality patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests according to established protocols
  • Analyze and validate test results for clinical significance and accuracy
  • Report results and communicate critical findings per established procedures
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and basic repair of laboratory instruments
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment or test system issues and implement corrective actions
  • Prepare reagents, manage inventory, and maintain adequate laboratory supplies
  • Perform and document quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing
  • Ensure specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards (CAP, TJC, OSHA, etc.)
  • Assist in reviewing and updating laboratory procedures and documentation
  • Communicate effectively with team members and leadership regarding workflow or issues
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and departmental projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field
  • Certification as one of the following required:
    • Medical Technologist (MT) – ASCP or AMT
    • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP BOC
    • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – ASCP BOC
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations in a professional manner

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during the workday
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Exposure to biological, chemical, and potentially hazardous materials
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Operation of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
