Position Summary:
MOA in the ambulatory practice functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The MOA as procedure scheduler is a dual role, assisting with prior authorizations and scheduling patients for procedures. The MOA reports to the lead scheduler and/or Practice Manager who is responsible for administrative supervision and orientation of the MOA to the area's policies and procedures. The individual displays responsible behaviors communicate effectively to others and functions at the highest level based on scope of practice. Must successfully pass all required training to obtain security access to perform role.
Competencies:
Education: A high school degree or GED equivalent is required.
Knowledge: Familiarity with computer-based patient appointment scheduling, registration systems and electronic medical record. Medical terminology required. Ability to confirm current medications.
Skills: Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management and organizational skills. Effective clinical skills appropriate for the ambulatory care setting.
Machines, Tools, Equipment: Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, phones, fax, copier, scanner, etc. Ability to operate medical equipment per departmental guidelines.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Manages phones
2. Greets patients
3. Schedules/confirms appointments
4. Enters demographics & patient information
5. Verifies insurance coverage, complete forms, collect co-pays
7. Maintains schedule in EMR system, and processes pre-certs/authorizations & referrals as well as medical records releases.
