Job Description

The Medical Lab Scientist I will play a crucial role in the Automated or Special Chemistry Department, overseeing the testing of assigned specimens. This role involves sample extraction using manual pipetting techniques, Tecan, and automated technology. The scientist will conduct manual data review of calibrations, QC, and chromatography, ensuring accuracy and adherence to laboratory procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Test assigned specimens using approved testing procedures.
  • Perform sample extraction using manual pipetting techniques and automated technology.
  • Conduct manual data review of calibrations, QC, and chromatography.
  • Adhere to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Review and release test results promptly.
  • Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may affect test performance or the reporting of test results.
  • Notify the technologist or supervisor of any unresolved issues.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in chemistry and laboratory techniques.
  • Experience in clinical laboratory settings.
  • Knowledge of CLIA regulations and compliance.
  • Proficiency in pipetting and specimen processing.
  • Experience with gas chromatography and liquid chromatography.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemistry with at least 25 credits in Chemistry courses, including analytical and instrumental courses.
  • 1 year of clinical lab experience in a CLIA-certified lab.
  • Experience with HPLC, GCMS, LCMS.
  • History in research, pharmaceuticals, or toxicology.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very busy clinical lab environment with increasing volume. The shift schedule is from Sunday to Thursday, 4pm to 12:30am. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $66000.00 - $72000.00/yr.
