  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Cardiology MUSE Administrator is the Medical Instrument Technician subject matter expert for the MUSE/EKG Management System having in-depth knowledge of system. The MUSE Administrator is responsible for regular and routine evaluation of the system to ensue EKGs are being properly transferred into the system and being properly routed to Cardiologists for final interpretation. The Cardiology MUSE Administrator also serves as the subject matter expert on clinical aspects of EKG acquisition and management. The incumbent works in the Cardiology Department of the Central Iowa VA Health Care System (VHACIH). Duties include regular maintenance of the MUSE system to ensure EKGs are being transmitted from all EKG carts within the Des Moines VA to include the outlying CBOCs. Training of all personnel on the proper performance of EKG and download of same into CPRS. The incumbent independently performs routine management of all MUSE functions. Ensures all carts are transmitting from all areas including the CBOCs. Assists with the training and set up of any new EKG equipment. Serves as the subject matter expert on the full range of electrocardiograph procedures, and related examinations such as Exercise Treadmill Testing and Holter and Event monitoring. Coordination with Biomedical Engineering on the creation and maintenance of an EKG cart location table with mutually agreed-upon naming conventions. Confirmation of patient demographic errors on EKG tracings sent to the EKG image management system, which may be common, and correction as needed. Routing of EKG studies to Cardiologist physician in-baskets. Input new Cardiologist physician users into the EKG image management system and inactivate old users as they enter/leave the department. Perform initial set up of Cardiologist physician user profiles in the EKG image management system. On a weekly basis, verify the workflow configuration on the EKG image management system including management of location ranges for user profiles, configuration of physician in-baskets, and oversight of filters applied to the system. Daily, will run database reports on the EKG image management system to query for unread/unconfirmed EKG tracings, mismatched EKG tracings, or other failures to properly route EKG tracings for physician over-read. Assists with billing and coding for testing and runs daily reports. Receives request and/or consults for procedures. Knowledge of the MUSE EKG equipment, how to prepare reports and troubleshoot MUSE system. Performs medical instrument technician work with stress test experience. This requires experience in operating specialized equipment related to the specialization of the position. Performs Medical Instrument Technician work with the Holter/Event monitoring specialty. This specialty area requires experience in applying, operating, and instructing Holter and Event monitoring equipment. The complying of data, revising reports and completing reports for physician review. Incumbent schedules patient for application and removal of monitors. Instructs in the operation of EKG equipment to nursing staff in patient care and clinic areas.
