Job Description
The Medical Information Specialist IV analyzes and synthesizes complex scientific and clinical data to develop accurate, balanced, and evidence-based responses to unsolicited medical inquiries about pharmaceutical products. This role supports healthcare professionals, institutions, and payors by providing high-quality medical and technical information, while collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Medical Affairs, Safety, Commercial, and Customer Care. The position requires strong scientific acumen, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure all medical communications meet regulatory and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and summarize available clinical and scientific data to create clear, evidence-based responses to unsolicited medical and technical inquiries about products from healthcare professionals, institutions, and payors.
- Provide verbal, written, and on-demand video responses to unsolicited medical and technical inquiries, ensuring information is accurate, balanced, up to date, and scientifically sound.
- Create and revise standard and custom medical information response documents to address existing and anticipated medical and technical questions from healthcare professionals.
- Assist field medical colleagues by supporting them with medical information responses for unsolicited inquiries they receive in the field.
- Revise and contribute to comprehensive, evidence-based medical information resources, such as clinical overviews, formulary dossiers, and online evidence repositories.
- Ensure all medical communication responses comply with applicable regulatory requirements, including FDA expectations for accuracy, balance, timeliness, and scientific rigor.
- Review promotional materials as needed for medical and scientific accuracy as part of the Promotional Review Board process, focusing on content that includes medical information.
- Provide related medical support, which may include creating or revising Customer Care Center scripts to ensure medically accurate and consistent responses to patient and provider inquiries.
- Support internal product training by contributing medical and scientific content and, when needed, delivering or assisting with training sessions.
- Participate in staffing medical booths at scientific meetings and conventions, providing medical information and scientific support to healthcare professionals and other attendees.
- Contribute to the global alignment of medical information standards and best practices to ensure consistency and quality of medical communications across regions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders in Medical Scientific Affairs, Field Medical Affairs, Product Safety, Customer Care, Sales, and Marketing to ensure consistent and accurate communication of medical and drug information.
Essential Skills
- Medical information experience, including analyzing scientific data and authoring responses to medical inquiries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and accurately to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented with demonstrated editorial skills to ensure precision, consistency, and quality in all written materials.
- Proficiency in literature search, data evaluation, and critical assessment of clinical and scientific publications.
- Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for medical communications, including FDA expectations for accuracy, balance, and scientific integrity.
- Strong presentation skills and proficiency with PowerPoint for creating and delivering scientific and medical presentations.
- BS degree within a medical discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, OR a PharmD, MD, or DO with a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in academic, clinical, or industry settings (post-doctoral fellowship may substitute for professional experience as appropriate).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Clinical experience, particularly in a healthcare or clinical practice setting, is a strong plus if direct medical information experience is limited.
- Prior experience in endocrinology or hemostasis therapy areas is preferred and highly valuable for supporting products in these domains.
- Experience in medical affairs or related functions within the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
- Familiarity with medical information systems, evidence repositories, and formulary dossier development.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Medical Affairs, Safety, Commercial, and Customer Care.
- Capacity to manage multiple inquiries and projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and attention to detail.
- PharmD, MD, DO, or other advanced medical or scientific degree is strongly preferred for candidates seeking to leverage specialized clinical and scientific expertise.
Work Environment
This position is based in Plainsboro in a hybrid work model, with three days onsite preferred and consideration for remote work for candidates who meet all core requirements. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role operates in a professional, collaborative environment that emphasizes patient impact, ethical leadership, and sustainable innovation. You will work closely with colleagues across Medical Affairs, Safety, Commercial, and Customer Care, using standard office technologies and tools such as literature databases, medical information platforms, and presentation software. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $57.99 - $57.99/hr.
