ABOUT US Southside Eyecare & Optical is a private optometry practice in Anchorage, Alaska dedicated to providing exceptional eye care to our patients. We are a close-knit team that takes pride in delivering a high standard of care and service. We are growing and looking for the right person to join us full-time in a dual-role position that sits at the intersection of billing and patient services. ABOUT THE ROLE This is a full-time position combining medical billing with patient checkout responsibilities. You will be a key part of our billing department handling claim submissions, payment posting, insurance verifications and insurance follow-up while also supporting the front desk team with patient checkout when needed. This is a role for someone who is detail-oriented, self-directed, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a busy clinical environment. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Medical Billing (Primary Responsibility) Submit electronic and paper claims across multiple insurance carriers including medical insurances, Medicare, and Medicaid Post payments and explanation of benefits (EOBs) accurately and in a timely manner Monitor and work through claim denials, rejections, and appeals Prepare and mail paper claims including CMS-1500 forms and Medicaid crossover claims requiring Medicare EOB attachments Review patient accounts or insurance aging for outstanding balances and follow up as needed Monitor patient invoices to ensure all transactions are properly authorized in RevolutionEHR Verify patient insurance eligibility as needed Patient Checkout (Secondary Responsibility) Process patient checkout including collecting copays, balances, and payments Explain insurance benefits, deductibles, and patient responsibility clearly and accurately Coordinate with billing and clinical staff to ensure accurate charges are applied at checkout Assist front desk team during high-volume periods or staff absences WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Required: Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience Solid understanding of medical insurance billing we are primarily out-of-network for vision plans and bill medical insurances for most of our services Experience with CMS-1500 forms and paper claim submissions Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid billing processes Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently Comfortable with patient-facing interactions and explaining insurance in plain language Preferred: Experience in optometry, ophthalmology, or a related specialty Medicaid billing experience specific to Alaska RevolutionEHR experience (we will train the right candidate) Experience with patient checkout and front desk operations Medical billing certification (CPC, CPB, or equivalent) WHAT WE OFFER Full-time position Competitive compensation commensurate with experience Supportive team environment in a private practice setting Opportunity to grow with the practice Benefits discussed upon offer SCHEDULE Monday through Friday.
