Medical Assistant/Relations Associate- Beth Israel Medical Group- Full Time - Days

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant/Relations Associate is responsible for effectively and efficiently providing patient procedures as ordered by the physician under the guidance of licensed medical staff (LPN, RN, NP or MD). In addition, provides clerical support necessary for efficient and effective functioning of the office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs EKGs as ordered by the physician

  2. Performs lab testing as ordered by the physician

  3. Performs PFT as ordered by the physician

  4. Admits patient to the exam room and takes vital signs, medical history, medication history and allergy history. Height and weight as indicated

  5. Performs quality controls

  6. Ensures that the patient referrals are completed and forwarded appropriately

  7. Documents appropriately any treatment

  8. Documents any telephone contact with the patient

  9. Documents in the lab accession log and outside medical testing log as per established procedure

  10. Adheres to universal precautions and OSHA Regulations

  11. Maintains examination rooms and medical areas in a clean and orderly fashion

  12. Registers and transacts patients promptly and accurately using current computer system

  13. Updates pertinent patient information, including medical insurance coverage and eligibility

  14. Ensures that all patients' names appear on daily ledger sheets

  15. Schedules patient appointments

  16. Retrieves and files medical reports/lab results

  17. Processes HMO referrals as requested by Physician, Practice Management, and patients

  18. Communicates to Physician all patient emergencies

  19. Answers telephones with name and Beth Israel Medical Group office location

  20. Takes messages to ensure follow-up on all calls

  21. Scans paperwork into the EMR in a timely fashion

  22. Balances ledger sheets and accounts for all monies received

  23. Has accountability for all aspects of the cash box and the contents within. Notifies Office Administrator or Reimbursement/Front Office Coordinator when change is needed

  24. Provides information to other departments as requested

  25. Provides assistance with uncovered shifts

  26. Confirms appointments

  27. Notifies Practice Manager or Office Manager of any problems in the office

  28. Notifies Practice Manager or Office Manager when office supplies are needed

  29. Calls insurance companies to verify coverage and eligibility

  30. Forwards to specialty offices all information pertinent to scheduled appointments; i.e., labs, referrals, ex-rays, etc.

Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma or general education diploma (GED).

BLS certification or Heart Saver from AHA

Certification as a Medical Assistant

Licensed/Credentialed as a Phlebotomist or EKG technician preferred

Experience:

Certification as a Medical Assistant

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $24.17 - $24.67 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
